In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston exposes the story of the love life of Janie. The relationship between Janie and her third husband, Tea Cake, was above and beyond the most positive of the three relationships with men she had and summoned forth her best assets. The relationships she had with these three men permitted her to be subjected to her first true love, expand her knowledge of working and taking care of herself, and discover a new culture/society.…

The general thought of films based off of a novel is negative towards the film, in the case of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God I will have to agree with the general thought. The film adapted for television by Oprah Winfrey does not include many of the important or want to see exciting details from the novel. The novel also exaggerated some parts of the book on psychological level, for example the hatred people had for one another. It was a good movie without doubt, yet I think they could of have done a better job staying on the novels storyline.…
Oprah Winfrey's movie, totally transformed Their Eyes were Watching God, beyond resemblance from Zora Neale Hurston's book. Throughout the movie many relationships changed, Janie gained much strength, morals became altered from the normal acceptance of this time and, the meaning completely shifted and symbols meaning completely. Obviously, Oprah had conducted changes in the movie which altered the entire recognition of the book.…

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston is chock-full of metaphors. Through metaphors, the author can create a link between different parts of the book, pointing out changes over time that the characters experience. These metaphors showcase the character development and refining of personality which the characters, especially Janie, go through in this book. Although she must suffer hardships in life to reach it, Janie ultimately attains happiness and good character, as is evident in the signature nature-focused Romantic metaphors [HUH?!?Try rewording it] that Hurston uses. [Try to make the thesis in one sentence with the “why” portion after a semicolon]…

In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, the hardships of being a young black woman in the 1930’s are conveyed through the experiences of Janie Crawford and her self-growth throughout several relationships in her life. Hurston contributes to the theme “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” by exhibiting how the motifs of power, judgment and sexism morphed Janie into becoming a resilient female character that challenged the societal norms set for her. This theme was also shown within the different towns that Janie lived in during the story and how those cultural settings projected their beliefs about dominance and power on Janie, and how Janie’s character grew immensely from the judgements she overcame in her lifetime.…
