Their eyes were watching god is a story of a girl named Janie. The story starts with Janie coming to her hometown in a very bad condition. Her hair is messed up, her clothes are torn and as soon as she reaches near by her house, everyone in her neighborhood starts to look at her and make nosy comments about her. Men talk about how her buttocks and breasts look. Women talk about how excited she was to leave the town and how she has ended up coming back in the town. They also comment about a man and tell that he must have taken all of her money and left her. Janie pretends like she did not listen anything and goes straight to her house. Then Janie’s friend Pheoby comes to meet her with a rice cake in her hand. Phoeby asks her why she is back
Nanny wants Janie to be settled in her life and Janie marries Logan Killicks. Janie is not happy with her marriage. Logan takes care of her and looks after her but she feels like something is missing in her life. She then goes to visit Nanny to tell her that she is not happy with her marriage. She asks Nanny to teach her how to love someone. Nanny laughs and tells her everything will be fine and just let it be the way it is and sends her back. Nanny soon dies after she returns back to her house. Killicks is old and skinny and he never washes his feet before going to bed. So, he has mud in his leg all the time. Janie does not like it. One day Killicks goes away from the house for some days and at that time Janie meets with a person named Joe Starks and runs off with him to a place called Eatonville. There Joe Starks buys huge amount of land and then creates a small town with the effort of the villagers and him itself. Right after the development Joe was elected as the mayor of the town Eatonville. Everyone in the town celebrates their accomplishment and enjoys their time. Then the mayor, i.e. Joe Straks goes up to the stage to light a candle and give a
