Zora Neale Hurston’s novel, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” portrays many themes that still are relevant to this day. One topic emphasized in the novel is the perception of love and how love is viewed from one person to another. However, there are really two different types of love which can be seen back during the novel’s time of the early 20th century all the way to today which is passionate and companionate love. Passionate love would be what the main character, Janie Crawford is seeking in her life while companionate love is what society wants for Janie.
