I wholeheartedly agree with Monk, and not only because he’s one of my favorite musicians, but because I understand the need for a certain degree of mad passion in your life. It is this mad passion that pushed me to apply for Fordham, and pushes me to achieve “the more” principle that is so intrinsic to this school’s mission. Like Monk, I might be viewed as crazy. After all, I’m determined to attend a college nearly 2,000 miles away from home. But that is not the naivety of youth speaking, and I am not simply an optimistic idealist. So although I have visited New York before, the environment is still alien and unfamiliar to me, and very very far from home. When I visited NY, I remember being struck by the opportunities in the city. The best jazz band in the world plays regularly at Lincoln Center, the world’s most cunning businessmen and women traverse the New York streets on a daily basis. Compared to where I live in the Rio Grande Valley, a few miles from Mexico, NYC is the land of opportunity. As a future law student, New York can offer me endless opportunities in terms of internships and experiences. I plan to be at the top of my field, and an education at Fordham could prepare me to achieve my great expectations. There is an infinite amount of people I could serve in New York as a learned individual, whereas in my hometown there was more of a scarcity of opportunities for advancement. This environment will serve to push me scholastically as well. Where I come from I have always been considered a sharp student, but I anticipate the environment at Fordham to be much more competitive. The diversity of New York will help me to learn about the world outside of the classroom, and I am extremely eager to explore the wide range of cultures I am sure to
