Topic: Questions and Answers from ?Called to Worship?, Chapter One (Creation: A Call to Worship)
In this world of multiple worship opportunities, how can we know that the God of the Bible is the God we are to worship? The God of the Bible reveals Himself through His creation. He is revealed as Elohim, the All-Powerful God who formed us in His image. Although we cannot see Him, we can sense His presence and know that through His power, He spoke and things were created, like the lights in the sky, the plants, the fish in the sea, the animals and you and me. And this God did not do this accidently; He had a plan. Through this plan He would teach us how to worship and teaches us also …show more content…
This God, known as the Creator, Elohim, is all powerful and sovereign, formed us in His image and placed within us the desire to know Him, fellowship with Him, love Him supremely, and worship Him. The Bible tells us that God?s Spirt was moving over the water[footnoteRef:1], and realizing that He wants to be with us and that without His presence we will not have worship. Therefore, it is when He is with us that we respond to worship. Through the Creator we discover power in His voice, for when He spoke things happened. For example, In Genesis, chapter 1, God said let there be light, let there be lights in the sky, let there be plants, let there be birds in the air, let there be animals and let there be humans. This is not all that God did in creation but He put His stamp of approval on it. Shouldn?t we be like Abraham, Moses and David and learn to worship Him? Beyond that God devised a plan to call seasons into existence and establish weeks and years, and this was all a part for the time when He would make man in His own image so that man would have a relationship with God and that man would glorify and worship God. Finally, God revealed some things about Himself that we can attribute to our worship of Him. First, we discover God revealed that He rested on the seventh day giving us an opportunity to meditate and worship God. Second, He created man, enduring him with three essential life elements (breath, will and freedom of choice, and all three reflected the image of God). Third, God placed with man a desire for companionship and this desire lends itself toward worship and fourth, God created a reproductive cycle. Therefore, the window that God opened revealed and displayed His glory, allowing man to see His love and wisdom so that we could know Him better and have a desire to want to worship Him.     It can be argued that god did create humanity for a purpose, as why would he endow us with sense, reason and intellect if he intended us to forgo their use? Do this for six days. Then Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.     I think what we read this week is very beneficial for somebody who wants to go into full-time professional ministry as a preacher or a teacher. There were tons of gold nuggets in the reading assignment this week from our text book. It really can help you define a philosophy of ministry in to knowing you are called to be a preacher or teacher of the Word of God. In the case of my own story, I was called into youth ministry and now 14 years later I am becoming a church planter and Lead Pastor. The material the author talks about is very practical in finding out your call to ministry and how the Holy Spirit anoints you for such a time as this to preach the word of God. I have already been doing the things the author talks about in the last 14 years of my calling into ministry. I really liked what the author had to say about finding you’re calling and anointing through the Holy Spirit on page 67 of the text this week. It says “Therefore, the metaphor of the Pastor as preacher is best employed within the context of the Pastoral work within a parish where it is clear that the preacher is also Pastor.”(Willimon, 2002, Pg.67) I think the first step the author talks about is getting a divine confirmation from God and knowing that you know that you know he has called you to a lifetime commitment in servant hood to people from all walks of life.…

    In Romans 1: 18- 32, it is telling us that what we are worshipping is wrong. It is telling us that God, our creator, who gave us everything is the one who should be worshipped and adored, but that because we ignored him and disobeyed him he gave us up to shameless lusts, to a depraved man, to do what ought not to be done. This passage also tells us that it’s not wrong to have these other idols; it becomes wrong when we begin to love these things and turn to them to satisfy and fulfill ourselves, and when we love these things more than we love God. I think that in today’s world the influences and idols we follow are not the ones we should be following. In today’s world we focus too mucho n worshiping other people who are good at sports or music or race car driving. But what we have to realize is that they have done nothing for us, only god has. He created us; he gave us his only son so that he could take away our sins. I think that some of my idols are money, success, my friends and my family. I think that sometimes I spend time with my friends and family and I have to sacrifice time for God. I don’t really worship my friends but by spending time with them I am not spending time with God. I think that sometimes I focus too much on having success in school instead of praying or going to youth group or just spending time talking with God. Our idols don’t have to be very big, just small little things which we do daily. Things that impede us from being with God they take away our time from God.
