Theme In Parallel Journeys
One potential message or theme in Parallel Journeys that Helen and Alfons might want readers to learn after reading the story is “Even when things get tough never give up.” This theme applies to the book because at many times both Helen and Alfons had to deal with losses. For example when Helen was forced to give away her daughter to another family, it was very hard for Helen to recover. She was even wondering if she would ever see her again. Despite all of the emotions being thrown at her she had to keep going because if she stopped running from the Nazis so she could cry about what was happening she would surely be captured and executed by the Nazis. But in the end she was able to return to Doris and become a family again. Another loss
