Dr. Stein Theme of Dr. faustus
The tragically story of Dr. Faustus represents a theme of a Man's limitations and potential. In this essay i will give a brief summary of the story. Then i will give text evidence backing up my key point. Thus finally i will end this paper with a conclusion. Marlowe's tragic piece Dr. Faustus is a story of sin , possibilities, redemption and valuing knowledge over wisdom. Dr. Faustus, a man who had it all, but lead greed and deception lead to his downfall. The story describes him as a very educated man with many doctorate degrees such as in law, logic, medicine and divinity. The struggle of not knowing the unknowing was too much for him and risking his soul was what it took form him to realize that some things are best being left not knowing. He found that divinity was the most powerful piece of wisdom to man. Because the question that comes to every man’s mind is life after death and Dr. Faustus wanted to fight the theory on life after death and question the beliefs on it. He says “Divinity is best...""The reward for sin is Death? (40) In an article it says "Faustus has a thirst for knowledge, but he seems unable to acquire wisdom. Faustus' thirst for knowledge is impressive, but it is overshadowed by his complete inability to understand certain truths. Because of this weakness, Faustus cannot use his knowledge to better himself or his world. He ends life with a head full of facts, and vital understanding gained too late to save him".
