In the beginning of the story, George and Lennie were in search for a job hoping they could find a new one. Luckily, they did find a job and started their journey for the ranch. Unfortunately, the bus driver dropped them off far from the ranch, where there job was taking place. So they sat down by a lake and started talking to each other about what they are going to do when they do reach the ranch. As they were talking, George says that …show more content…
they will make enough money to buy a piece land together and have things of their own.
This is the first time they talk about their future in the story. As time passes, Candy, an old swamper, finds out about their plans and wants to be apart of it. He claims he has money that will help them buy the piece of land they were planning to buy. Candy was confident in the plan so he starts thinking about it carefully and he also hears there will be rabbits on the farm which will be in the care of Lennie. He figures a way to make money off of the rabbits and goes to tell Lennie about it. However, Candy was not aware about Lennie with Crooks, the stable buck. Lennie tells Crooks about the land but he refuses to believe Lennie. Crooks starts putting negative thoughts in Lennie’s head, however Candy walks in the room while this was happening to tell Lennie about making money off of the rabbits. As they were talking about the plan, Crooks started to believe in the plan. Crooks wanted to be apart of the plan and says he will work for his keep. After the dispute with Curley’s wife, George reminds Candy to not mention the plan to anyone else. Crooks figures he is not wanted to be apart of the plan so he changes his mind about it. The dream starts to crumble when Lennie
accidentally breaks Curley’s wife’s neck. Lennie runs away to the brush to hide and wait for George. Meanwhile back in the barn, where Curley’s wife’s body was found, George and Candy know that the dream will not happen. The dream not happening was Candy’s greatest fear. George goes to the brush to meet with Lennie. They talk about the dream one last time. Then George euthanizes Lennie.
This is my explanation on the theme I chose, “Dreams, Hopes, and Plans.”, which tells the story of George and Lennie’s plan and how it did not succeed.
