Kurt Wimmer’s film Equilibrium (2002) is set in color. It tells a story about how suppressing emotions eliminates war, and any books, art, or music is forbidden. Those who are caught being a sense offender has committed a crime punishable by death. The film demonstrates the true source of man’s inhumanity to man. The internal struggle within the characters throughout the film such as with the main character Cleric John Preston (Christian Bale), contributes to the theme of the Truth of Human Nature.

Preston shows Mary the picture of Partridge and her, and he confesses to her that he was the one who killed him. Mary then tries to kill Preston and he stops her, and stares down at her face, showing affection towards her as if she was a symbol of the love he had lost with his wife. Mary realizes that Preston has stopped taking his doses after another visit, and she slides her hand close to him, and he does the same. In that moment we could say that Preston was close the finding truth, and meaning of his feelings. Preston leaves and asks someone for the confiscated items from Mary’s apartment, he steals a red ribbon and smells it before putting it in his pocket. In this act he displays his growing affection for her. There is suspicion of a trader in the mists and Preston vows to bring them and the rebels in to reassure them. Preston is now working with the rebels in order to kill the leader (Father). Preston finds out that Mary is to be killed, and he has a flashback to when the killed his wife. Preston’s wife was implicated as a sense offender and stood by and did nothing. Preston rushes to save Mary, but arrives too late. He breaks down in front of Brandt overwhelmed with emotion he had not felt. At that moment he finally saw clearly, and his nature changed completely. Brandt tried to turn him in, but Preston then framed his partner with the gun used by the trader who killed their own men. He requested when he brought in the rebels he wanted to meet with Father, but his intentions were to kill him. Preston goes to meet with Father only to find out that he was a pawn in the game all along. Preston was used to turn in the rebels, DuPont who was acting as Father after he died told Preston that the only way to catch the rebels was to use someone like them. Preston then goes to kill Brandt and DuPont (Father), but before DuPont dies he says what
