Fear is something that is portrayed in King’s novels because it is a central theme for everyone in all parts of the world. Every individual has felt the feeling of being scared, whether it be a somewhat silly fear such as, being afraid of the dark or as serious as the fear of death itself. The novel It is about fears in general. A very common fear of clowns that seems to run central for the majority of Americans. “The terrifying clown called It, which may represent our childhood and adult fears and how easily we allow them to rule our lives;” (2-5). Sometimes people really do let their lives be controlled by their fears. Sometimes that is what is easier, it is easier to just let our fears control us and people lie to themselves. It is easier to watch a train wreck and say it is not happening then to admit that it is happening and go on from it. People do not like to admit they have fears and that is why this book and movie are so prevalent to the theme of King’s stories. The story is very important not only because of the theme of fear but many others as well, “It. is mostly told in third-person-all seeing mode. It addresses King’s most beloved themes: omnipotence of memory, childhood suffering, and the monstrousness prowling behind a disguise of classic sectarian valves”(The Writing Style of Stephen King ). People have to go through suffering, especially some young children. Stephen King went through a lot of hardships himself making him write the way he does. King had to go through so much pain which is probably why the kids in the book being as young as they are, have to be forced to face their fears and either get over them or die
