Curley is a short, angered, and mean guy who is the son of the boss and thinks that he can get away with anything. Curley has a huge amount of power considering that he is the boss's son, he can do whatever he wants to anybody and get away with it. George has very little power on the ranch that he works on, most of his power is over Lennie. George has been watching over Lennie ever since his Aunt Clara died, and Lennie will do pretty much anything George tells him to do. ‘“What you gonna say tomorrow when the boss asks you questions?”’(15). Shows what power george has over Lennie. George uses his power over Lennie in a kind conservative ways even though people think he is taking advantage of him he really cares about him. His power hurts him more than it helps them in the way that he gets really close to Lennie but in the end he has to kill him and thats becomes really hard. But his power also helps him because he moves up in the ranks of the ranch.
Slim is a quite, respectable leader of the bunk house that everyone respects and looks up too. All of Slim's power is over his bunk house workers. “‘His authority was so great that his word was taken on any subject, be it politics or love”’ The power comes from the respect from his co workers and the difficulty of the job he does. Slim doesn’t use his power in many ways other than just respect from his bunk mates and any others on the ranch. His power never really hurts or helps, it is just stable throughout the story.
