For example, the idea of mob mentality. In the novel at the jailhouse a mob is formed but the lynch mob is stopped because they kids learn that when singled out, logical thinking comes to mind and Cunningham is stopped with his mob. This relates to real life because of what happens on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram etc. Media icons with loads of power and a massive following often sway their fan-base into a point where they opinion mirrors that of their favorite popstar or social media icon. A bunch of people do not think for themselves when it comes to that. An entire opinion can be changed by a simple tweet and that relates back to that mob mentality when one person does something and everyone piggybacks on that idea, starting a movement of copied ideas. At that point people aren’t exactly stating their own opinion. This was a big problem I believe in the 2016 election where many people I feel just voted based off of someone else’s opinion because they feared being criticized for their own. I think this relates to the novel because I feel if the Jim Crow laws weren’t in place and the community wasn’t so supportive of racism, a handful of innocent people wouldn’t judge someone based off of their skin color. A lot more of these anti-racist folks like Atticus would appear if society back then didn’t socially pressure them into being racist with insults and
