In the stories “A Rose for Emily” and “Lamb to the Slaughter” there is a plot of rejection and revenge. The main character in “A Rose for Emily” is a woman named Emily Grierson. She falls in love with a man named Homer Barron, who turns out to bring Miss Emily a lot of anger and sadness. The next story, “Lamb to the Slaughter” is about a woman Named Marry Maloney who is very in love with her husband, Patrick Maloney. Later, he brings great sorrow to Mary, who is six months pregnant with his child, when he tells her some news. Both Mary and Emily were rejected in ways that gives them reasons to kill their lovers. It starts off with Mary waiting patiently for her husband, Patrick, to get home from work. When he gets in she immediately takes of his coat and fixed him a drink. She knew that he was exhausted so she asked him, if instead of going out, if he wanted her to cook. He harshly refused then when she begged him he harshly yelled, “I don’t want it”. She named off what they had in the freezer and he said, “forget it”. She said she was going to cook anyway and that’s when he rudely told her to sit down. That’s when he told her some news that threw her into shock. From his words “I’ll give you money and see that you’re taken care of”, I could only conclude that he was leaving her for another woman. She tried to pretend it never happened. As she walked down stairs to get the lamb out of the freezer she could not feel her feet and she was starting to feel sick. When she came back up with the lamb she saw Patrick standing in the window. She then hit him in the back of the head, with the lamb, ending his life. Overall Marry was rejected by her husband when she wanted to cook for him and when to leave her for another women he rejected her as a
