In the musical, character Lina seems to be very wrapped around her fame and fortune. Lina read an article in a magazine that her and her co-star, Don Lockwood were engaged to be married. With Lina being so tied up in the illusion of her fame, she begins to forget her reality. The reality happens to be that her and Don are not engaged. Lina is distracted by others opinions and gossip.
Lina being in many movies and acting for many years causes her to be well known by many people. Many people seem to like Lina from what they see on the screen. She believes she's an amazing actress, but she is only seen that way to her fans. Knowing her fans believe in her talents, makes Lina believe her talents are true, as she is hidden from reality of her skills. Not only does Lina believe in her “abilities”, she believes her abilities are more important than others. Lina is fake in the musical as character and Dons love interest Kathy sings for her, due to Lina not being a good singer. Lina is set up to be exposed of her true voice at the end and reality sets in for her.
Lina is portrayed to be a cliche dumb actress due to her lack of reality in her life. Ms. Lamont is placed in the illusion by her fans ,and could never snap back to reality. The illusion Lina has is the American Hollywood dream, would you ever recognize reality?
