Theme Of The Cold Equation By Tom Godwin

In the short story, “The Cold Equations,” written by Tom Godwin, is about an emergency supplies ship pilot who finds a stowaway on his ship, and must execute her on sight. This story illuminates the theme that sometimes, the consequences to one's actions can be worse than the initial crime itself. First, in the beginning of the story, The E.D.S pilot sits in the cockpit of his ship, reciting the clearly stated law, “Any stowaways discovered in an EDS shall be jettisoned immediately following discovery”.
