The Theme of The Hunger Games In the movie, The Hunger Games, viewers are given a fictional look at what the world might look like in the future. In Panem, everybody lives in one of the twelve districts or in the capital, and each year there is an event called the Hunger Games. Each district sends two tributes, one male and one female, between the ages of twelve and eighteen into the Hunger Games Arena. Here the twenty-four tributes fight to the death to be the last one alive. The movie focusses on the young protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers in her younger sister’s place to go into the arena for the seventy-fourth Hunger Games. Throughout the film, the theme, actions that might seem small, can in turn have large impacts, is expressed.
Half-way through the games the game makers promise that if the last two tributes are from the same district then they will both be crowned victors. However, when Katniss and Peta, both tributes from the same district, are left standing the game makers retract their previous deal, so the two make a plan to eat posness berries at the same time This would cause them to both to die simutanuly leaving no victor or cause the game makers to intervene resulting in two victors. The two were only concerened about living and did not realize what their actions might trigger. President Snow sees the berry incident as an act of rebellion, so he kills Seneca Crane, the head game maker, who he believes is responsible for the whole ordeal. Not only does he go after Crane, but he also sets his sights on making the two victors pay. The first movie only briefly highlights the extent of the what their action in the arena cause, but it does show the death of one person and the blood-thirsty president plotting revenge.
