The first clue why I think that the theme to this story is to understand your father more, is because when Lemon Brown starts talking about his son, he realizes it is really important to respect their fathers. Greg realizes that even though their is a child’s perspective, there is also a parent’s perspective. After all, Lemon Brown’s son is dead, so he cannot do anything for his father, but Greg still can. That is really the reason why I understood that the theme of the story is to respect, and understand their fathers more, because even though they sometimes are strict, they still do the best for their children. This is where I thought Greg started understanding about his father’s perspective
