There are two vacation spots I frequently visited in my youth that hold special memories for me. The two places are Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. When I was very young and lived in South Florida, my family would make our yearly two-week vacation to our home in Boone, NC. Each year, this trip included a visit to Gatlinburg. I hold very special memories of these trips and still love to visit the Gatlinburg area. When I moved to North Carolina in my late teens, Myrtle Beach was the vacation and summer break spot. Even on my first visit to Myrtle Beach, although very different, it instantly reminded me of my trips to Gatlinburg as a child. Although both places are very different, in many ways they are very much the same. After going from the vacationing child, to the paying adult, I realized more and more how both places appeal to the same vacationer. I also realized that forms of entertainment were either the same or comparable. Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg compliment and differ in many ways, and a few of those examples are stage entertainment, restaurants, and scenic vacation experiences. Both vacation spots have tons of entertainment. Sometimes the problem with family vacation spots is not what are we going to do, but how are we going to do it all In Myrtle Beach, some of my favorite entertainment activities are Big Laughs Theatre Wild 4 Hypnosis Comedy Show. Located in Surfside Beach, SC, this show is a belly-laughing good time. This show consists of audience members being hypnotized and doing funny things they do not remember. The show is great for all ages, which makes it a family favorite. Another fun entertaining place in Myrtle Beach is The Carolina Opry. The Carolina Opry is the only show named, Top Attraction in Myrtle Beach by CNN, New York Times, and USA Today, just to name a few. Shows at this location would include, Light, a laser light show to music such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin, Good…
Have you ever heard of the famous Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park? Last September, Tommy and I took the kids there for the weekend and had an amazing time. We had a great time because the whole place was very family-friendly. There was more than enough activities to keep the whole family excited and busy the entire weekend. The most exciting and enjoyable place that I have ever visited was the Great Wolf Lodge in Charlotte, North Carolina. There was a huge indoor water park with great food, arcades, bowling alleys and lots of other activities for us to enjoy.…
Roller coasters, one of the best amusement rides that ever existed. This amazing ride traces its origins back to Russia where it all began (Source E). Russia is where wood-framed ice slides sent sledders down 70- foot high slopes in the 16th century, in St.Petersburg, Russia (Source E). Since, Russia was a snowy place, the sleds were a perfect pastime. The roller coaster was built out of lumber with a sheet of ice several inches thick covering the surface to make sure it was as safe and sturdy as it could be (Source F). The riders climbed the stairs attached at the back of the slide, and they sped down a 50 degree drop (Source F). The slide were mostly ridden by the upper class of Russia (Source F). During the winter festivals in Russia, the…

As a kid, I had the privilege to visit many amusement parks, the most common being Lagoon and Disneyland. While they are both amusement parks, they are similar in ways and quite different in many ways as well.…
We can go on Millennium Force later” I replied. We all agreed to go on Millennium Force later and decided to go to Magnum. We waited in line again for an hour or so before it was our turn. The Magnum did not scare me because it was meant to be a fast coaster rather than a tall one, which i enjoyed. It was a metal coaster that zoomed through on its red tracks. We rode the Magnum and decided to move onto Wicked Twister. Wicked Twister was one of my favorite rides because although it was really simple, it gave us a great view of Lake Erie. The ride had a U-shaped curve, the coaster went from one end to another with twists on each end. Once we rode the Wicked Twister a couple of times we decided it was time to find our parents for a small lunch break. We searched for around 10 minutes when we finally spotted them sitting down. We all had a quick lunch of pizza and a small drink before we resumed our conquest to ride the roller coasters. We walked around for a half hour so that we could digest our food before we made our way to the line for the Raptor. The Raptor was another classic Cedar Point ride that had crazy twists and turns accompanied with great speed. The special thing about the raptor was that there was no seat, but we were standing up and harnessed in. Going upside down was not my favorite but since we went at such a fast pace I usually did not feel it. As always, the line for the raptor was…
At thirteen years old, I was the kid that no one wanted to drag to an amusement park with because I strictly stuck to the merry go round and swings. My parents were always eagerly trying to persuade me to at least try a roller coaster but I refused. Deep inside I wanted to be fearless and be able to jump on the attraction like there was no problem, but I was too nervous. All of my friends, including my family were adrenaline junkies, always wanting to get on the roughest and worst rides of them all. This naturally caused me to become even more frustrated when attending Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, which was very often. It wasn’t till one day when visiting the park that I decided I was not just going to take a risk, but I was determined to overcome my first roller coaster.…
There is the individual that knows every minute fact about every roller coaster ever made. Then, there are small children that have to stay in kiddy land. Finally, there are the fanatic families that are there for just a day. These three categories are the roller coaster guru, the under sixty-two-inch club, and the non-stop ride until you drop family crew.…
As a child, I had the chance to travel to various parks but my favorite place was always Kings Island. Me and my family travel to Ohio at least four times a month. Every Friday night, we’ll all stay up until sunrise. Before we get on the highway, me and my sister including my parents will share a prayer. I always beat everybody to the car sitting in the front seat yelling “LETS GO”. The whole time on the road, we’ll all play cards, listen to music, and eat a few snacks. We save the meals for when we get there and also for the trip back home. After an hour on the road, I tend to just go to sleep until we reach our destination. That was always the routine, it never fails.…

Wait. Walt Disney World? That’s about as Lonely Planet as a trip to Branson, Missouri (no offense, Branson). Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Sure, there will be lines a mile long, and sure, you’ll spend more money than you intended on a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt that you would never have dreamed of buying before you came. But no matter how much of a hard-core traveler you claim to be, there’s something here that will soften you – something that will spark your inspiration and imagination. Maybe it’s the children’s awestruck faces illuminated by the fireworks above Cinderella’s Castle. Maybe it’s a particular turn in a particular ride. Maybe it’s the corny (but endearing) joke told by the guy who drives the horse-drawn carriage down Main Street. Whatever it is, once you’re there, you’ll admit it. Walt Disney World’s got you.…
| Probably not because there isn’t really anything special there that sets them apart from other amusement parks…
