The Lord’s Prayer demonstrates the basic structure of prayer. It’s not only a prayer to be repeated but a model or framework for prayer. We also see Christ praying in the Gospels in the Garden of Gethsemane. We hear Him plead for this “cup” to pass from Him. However, He says to let God’s will be done. Practical Application:
The structure of our prayers can be taught through the Lord’s Prayer. The disciples clearly asked the Lord to teach them to pray. Here we are taught by Christ on who to address, to give God the reverence He deserves, to ask for His return and will to be done, to put forth our petitions, to ask forgiveness for the sinners we are, to ask for the strength to forgive others as He forgives us, to ask for wisdom to avoid sin, and to wrap it all up with putting ourselves away and letting Christ work through us.
