Theodor Frick, Va By Carl W. Hambuch Analysis
I decided to complete my assignment on Theodor Frick, Porkpacker, Richmond, Va. by
Carl W. Hambuch dated 1878 because the colors drew me in out of all the art work I seen at the
Amon Carter Museum. The smooth texture of the painting plus the colors made me think of the
Holidays. My favorite time of year in which I feel warm and passionate inside. When I interpret this piece of art, I see a farm within its community expanding and growing. In my chosen work of art, artist Carl W. Hambuch used many of the elements of design in Theodor Frick, Porkpacker, Richmond, Va. When analyzing this piece of art, the view in which Mr. Hambuch created this piece of art is amazing to me. The way the painting flows from the front to the back made it

The overlapping of the houses gives me a sense of depth and makes me curious as to what may be behind each house or structure that Mr. Hambuch painted. The different sizes of the objects in the painting sit perfectly with this type of view. Also the atmospheric perspective is very intriguing as it seems that the area of the farm in the background is still be built up. I like how the the artist used balance in his painting. When viewing this painting I see housing stuctures stacked on one side and on the right side going up the painting there are a few trees with a lot of open land which balance out the painting in my eyes. Mr. Hambuch’s use of repetitive lines alters my mind when analyzing. The way the farm is outlined in a vertical rectangle and the use of lines within make the painting seem like the artist started this piece with something else in mind like some type of architectural structure, but instead ended up with this piece of art. The colors used here are awesome in my opinion. Using adjacent colors from the color wheel bring much harmony to this painting as I briefly described before, expressing the feeling of the holidays when looking at this painting. When looking at this painting, I see and feel warmth. A rather large farm for the

In “The builders, the family” the artist, Jacob Lawrence, chose screen-print for this painting making everything smooth, sharp, precise. The layout is very symmetric. The objects, the family, and the workers all appear to be directing up symbolizing a positive painting. All colors in this painting are very bright. In addition to the symmetry in this painting, the body language is very positive. All the members in the family are wearing yellow which is a very happy color. The father of this painting is wearing a white color instead of the workers that are wearing blue collars. The white collar symbolizes a hard job that does not require physical work. The blue collars symbolize a hard working job that requires physical work. This family seems to be a very wealthy family.…

Just a little bit off from the middle of the painting there is a structure not unlike Stone Hedge in England on top of a hill. Below it there is a river with small sailing ships going around, and on the bank there is a village filled with lots of wooden structures and even further left you can see a man using oxen to plow a field. On the other side of the painting you can see another section of the river where a larger sailing ship is being constructed on its…

Also, if you look very closely at the painting, you can see some brush strokes that the painter made. I like that because the viewer can see how thick the paint is and how you move onto the canvas. Lastly, I like how there is light around the top of the painting. I love how the artist used different colors and shades. This art piece goes very well in my family's dining room, in my opinion.…

Every line is well painted and defined. There are no rough edges or smooth sections because verything is crucially symmetrical. Also, the colors used are phenomenal! There are very few sharp lines in the work but the artist has still been able to give a realistic look to the painting. By keeping the sizes of the objects in the painting proportionate to what they would be if you were to look at them in real life he has added a sense of realism to the painting. Much of the painting has a very geometric shape such as the windows, fireplace, baseboards and such. The coats however have a more organic shape, hanging freely and loosely on their hangers hooked to the fireplace mantle. Aside from the view outside the window and of the coats hanging upon the mantle the space in the painting is fairly empty.…

The painting itself has 13 red and white stripes and 48 white stars against a blue background square, it’s an image that at the time, during the Cold War, would have elicited different reactions from people. The collage underneath was made with newspaper, a disposable material much like other Pop artists used and the encaustic technique was meant to draw the viewer in for further inspection of the piece. There isn’t one point of focus in the piece, everything is meant to be given the same amount of consideration, and this is done with the technique using the encaustic paint. He arranged the collage and then the heavy brushstrokes in a way that spreads out the focus, ensuring there is not one single focal point. His artworks, including this piece, seem more concerned with the structure than with the meaning, which greatly depended on the personality of the viewer.…

The bright vivid colors attracted me to this work; I found it interesting how the artist played off of mostly reds and blues and I liked how my attention was immediately drawn to the center of the painting. All of the people seemed to be involved in the miraculous birth of the Jesus. The greatest aesthetic strength of this painting is its use of vivid color, the aesthetic weakness I found was the lack of the artistic use of shadow. I…

I'll be analyzing this painting in a few different realms, first with looking at color. The Meat Stall seems dominated by darks hues and mainly secondary colors. In the front area of the painting, which is filled with raw meat, the colors seem to be more saturated and vibrant. Whereas, the back of the painting has a very low saturation. These two contrasting areas show that…

For the bottom part, it seems like the colors overlapping each other; it can be thought that the artist has carelessly poured the color mixing together, and he was lazy to repainted it. However, it makes the scene more curious because we cannot really see what is inside the green bush accept the foliage. As for me, I can…

The entire photo looks like you’re viewing it specifically from your point of view, as if you were to reach out and match your hands up with the hands on the image, they would be the exact same size. From a distance, you can see a crow on a stage, and look further beyond that, you see a man walking away into a cathedral, with a mass of clouds hanging over the scene. Upon first glance at the work, it left me with a lot of unanswered questions.…
