As a young man Roosevelt was quite a successful. Before getting elected president he served as the governor of New York and as the vice president of the United States. He didn’t really gain a lot of thrust from American citizens with his approach that it was pointless to try and solve the problems, but later on he would make his move which would help him regain the trust of the people of America. In 1902 a conflict between mine owner and mine workers occurred. The miners had gone on strike and were unhappy with their salaries and demanded a 20 percent increase and a reduction of workdays throughout the year. This problem wasn’t going anywhere and both sides could not come to terms. Then when Roosevelt had stepped in the picture he demanded that the representatives of the two sides should come for a meeting. He stood with the workers and they got what they were asking. This really helped him gain the thrust and love of American citizens. This wasn’t the only thing Roosevelt did to gain the respect of Americans, he put aside 125 million acres of timber as a federal reserve because only 25 percent of timber reserves were left in the entire of America. One of the most famous and significant tings he did as president was building the Panama Canal. He invested 400 million dollars into this project and it shortened the trip from San Francisco to New York for 8000 miles and the Panama Canal was also used by the US military forces and made them very powerful in Central America. This project had lasted a whole decade and was finished in 19014 but the significance of it was huge, but during his time as president Roosevelt was more of a peacemaker, one of his biggest accomplishments as a peacemaker was when he helped stop the fighting between Russia and Japan.
