A. Basic tenets of the theory
Basic tenets of the theory involve focusing on the here and now. According to Corey (2012), “Gestalt therapy is an existential-phenomenological approach based on the premise that individuals must be understood in the context of their ongoing relationship with the environment” (p. 105). The philosophy of the theory allows clients to take responsibility for their own growth and to “come to grips with what they are thinking, feeling, and doing” (p. 105) in therapy and in their own time.
B. Reasons you chose the theoretical orientation for the client.

According to the narrative, Ginger has lost interest in her friends, school, and social activities for a couple of months now so one objective of treatment would be for Ginger to partake in at least one more social event per week. According to Corey (2012), these specific actions would be considered a specific technique used to bring about action to certain prescribed outcome in mind, which of course would be to acquire social support. Another objective of treatment of Ginger would be to increase effective communication with her parents. Ginger may begin to change this by first becoming aware of when there is a non-effective communication techniques such as turning away versus turning toward one another when speaking. A specific exercise using the Gestalt therapy would be to incorporate The Reversal Exercise (Corey, 2013), which will allow Ginger to pretend she is her mother than gain a better understanding of what it is to come from the parent
