Consequently, God is quite angered by this and he portrays his anger by listing all the wrongs that Jerusalem has done to him in very strong emotions. He portrays it in a way that makes it seem like Jerusalem just used God for its own benefit. Like an unfaithful wife, at some point, Jerusalem was weak and needed help, but once it gained its strength, it prostituted itself to others. In a way, it seems almost like Jerusalem is making fun of God with no remorse whatsoever and is ridiculing him by abusing God’s love and forgives for it. “You took your beautiful things, made of gold and silver that I had given to you, and you made yourself phallic images and fornicated with them.” (Ezekiel, 16:17) For me, this was the most shocking sentence in Ezekiel 16. The reason being because God’s “wife” completely disrespects and betrays God’s love for her by fornicating herself with silver and gold dildos! This is not at all what someone would expect to find in the Bible. It is very sexually graphic, but obviously not in an erotic way, but rather in a quite disturbing manner because God has gifted Jerusalem all these wonderful things and she has completely disrespected him with no remorse whatsoever.
