Cape Peninsula University of Technology feroxneto@gmail.com Abstract
Attendance register is a fundamental and compulsory tool in the academic environment. Despite the use of different mechanisms in the IT Department in CPUT to track students’ attendance, problems remain because there is not a standard format for the attendance register, what makes the manual analysis of it inconvenient, time consuming and inaccurate. A standardised and consistent attendance register system does not exist in CPUT. The paper presents a network based automatic attendance register system with use of RFID technology as the solution to ensure the well being of the institution and academic progression of students. An electronic solution is a more effective mechanism to for collection, processing, storage and production of attendance reports and long-term analysis.

1. INTRODUCTION
Academic attendance register is a very important and compulsory tool in the process of learning; it helps lecturers track students individually and measure their interest.
Academic attendance is indeed one of the key factors that determine students’ performance (Durden & Ellis, 1995). Even though there is no causal relationship between students’ high attendance and good academic performance; but there is a positive correlation between them; in general students with good or excellent academic performance have high attendance

In How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, Foster uses literature to simplify his analysis of modernist novels. One piece of literature, he analyzes is the short story The Dead by James Joyce. In the short story, snow is a prominent element and symbolizes death and unity. It is used to highlight the death of Gabriel’s delicate ego. With impeccable wording, Joyce uses the snow to enlighten Gabriel about an important lesson--that he is an inadequate piece of the world and that he is only one of the thousands of people of the world united by snow. Joyce describes Gabriel's newfound humility as, “[h]is own identity was fading out into a grey impalpable world: the solid world itself, which these dead had one time reared and…

As you may have recently seen/heard, the war started and lasted abruptly, the bomb has obliterated the entire city of St. Louis. And I am sure you have heard of the fireman that made our town famous. Yes, the one about Sir Guy Montag, how the “fireman” had to burn his own house down for having books in his home. The rare thing about that incident was what happened after his house was burned. He burned a man and killed the other two firemen. That was the thing that set me slim. The talk in this district is mad. You almost can bet what it’s about. It is either about the fireman who set the world on fire or the bomb that hurt everyone. The survivors are going insane! There is no order in this chaos we call a town! And I, as Captain Beatty’s replacement, have a few simple proposals as in how to restore the peace to this mad house I call home. There will be no more book burnings for this town. Not only will the books be kept safe, but they will be cherished. First off, I am going to make an organization called Books for Homes. Everyone will help restore the homes that were destroyed in the horrible tragedy. Each home and family will have one book. Everyone in the household will remember that one book and have it passed down to their family and so on and so on. Everyone will have a shred of knowledge of the past and will have some type of understanding of the times before. Secondly, there will be a town cleanup for a week. Our town was already dead before the bomb; it passed away from lack of knowledge and the truth. The bomb just got rid of the carcass of the town like a vulture on a dead body. I will help this town resurrect from the ashes of what once was to what it could be. Next everyone in the town will have a food drive to help feed the families that lost everything. This town will make a complete 360 ° flip. Everyone will have to act as one and unit to make the change. It takes one step to cross the…

The book Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Brontë, uses many “supernatural” elements to help add to the drama of the book. These elements help classify part of the book into the gothic novel category. The gothic element of Jane Eyre is important because it utilizes elements such as supernatural encounters, remote locations, complicated family histories, ancient manor houses, dark secrets, and mysteries to create an atmosphere of suspense and terror to add drama to the story.…

    • ABAQUS uses the initial stresses specified by the user (*INITIAL CONDITIONS, TYPE=STRESS, GEOSTATIC) as an initial guess (or as a start in the process of getting a converged stresses for the start of the analysis). This initial stress specification has a great impact on the subsequent steps. i.e. Deviation of the initial stress values from the actual, would result in incorrect higher soil displacements of the model which in turn leads to instabilities and analysis termination.…

Objectives:This paper seeks to provide an overview of the initiatives that are proceeding internationally to develop standards for the exchange of electronic health record (EHR) information between EHR systems. Methods:The paper reviews the clinical and ethico-legal requirements and research background on the representation and communication of EHR data, which primarily originates from Europe through a series of EU funded Health Telematics projects over the past thirteen years. The major concepts that underpin the information models and knowledge models are summarised. These provide the requirements and the best evidential basis from which HER communications standards should be developed. Results: The main focus of EHR communications standardisation is presently occurring at a European level, through the Committee for European Normalisation (CEN). The major constructs of the CEN 13606 model are outlined. Complementary activity is taking place in ISO and in HL7, and some of these efforts are also summarised. Conclusion: There is a strong prospect that a generic EHR interoperability standard can be agreed at a European (and hopefully international) level. Parts of the challenge of EHR interoperability cannot yet be standardised, because good solutions to the preservation of clinical meaning across heterogeneous systems remain to be explored. Further research and empirical projects are therefore also needed. Haux R, Kulikowski C, editors. IMIA Yearbook of Medical Informatics 2006. Methods Inf Med 2006; 45 Suppl 1: S13644.…

Most anyone will agree that customer service is one of the most important parts of your company's overall strategy to conducting business. Without customers you really don't have a business. Every company either has or thinks it has good customer service. However, if certain steps are not taken to ensure this, the reality of their situation is often far worse than their current perceptions. Customer feedback is an excellent way to track and measure your level of service. You should not only benchmark your company against your competition, but also against the goals you set for yourself. Once again, you must remember you are trying to not only meet, but exceed your customer's expectations. Good customer service is the foundation of any business. It provides a platform for continued growth and helps to build your businesses reputation. You can offer promotions and slash prices to bring in as many new customers as you want, but unless you can get some of those customers to come back, your business won't be profitable for long. Good customer service is also about sending them away happy - happy enough to pass positive feedback about your business along to others, who may then try the product or service you offer for them, in their turn becoming repeat customers. Customer service is important to an organization because it is often the only contact a customer has with a company. Customers are vital to an organization.…

The researchers conducted this study because they observed many of their batch mates exhibit inferiority complex. They want to know why they are unveiling such manner and what the factors that contribute to inferiority complex are. Because of inferiority complex, their batch mates show some unusual behaviors toward class discussions. One of these unusual behaviors is that students experiencing inferiority complex seldom participate in class and are afraid to contribute their ideas in fear of being humiliated in front of the whole class because his answer is not relevant to their discussion. As a result, they will just sit and listen to the brilliant students with their brilliant ideas. Another obvious unusual behavior is excellent students overpower average thinkers thus making them ashamed to suggest because they know that the outcome of that is brilliant students will only ignore their suggestions and stick to theirs. Finally, it would result to a low performance in school because of inferiority complex.…
