CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of playing computer games to the students of Palawan Hope Christian School. Computer games are video games played on a general-purpose personal computer rather than a dedicated video game console or arcade machine. Nowadays, many of the high school students play computer games. Instead of studying they waste their time playing computer games. The researchers are wondering what are these games that they got addicted to. The researchers would like to know what are these computer games. The researchers would also like to know the effects to the students of Palawan Hope Christian School.
Statement of the Problem
Generally, this study aims to know the common computer games played by the high school students of Palawan Hope Christian School for the school year 2012-2013.
Specifically, the researchers sought to answer the following questions: 1) What are the games that the students commonly play in the computer? 2) How many students play computer games? 3) How many hours do they spend in playing computer games? 4) What are the effects of playing computer games to the students? 5) What are the reasons of the students for playing computer games?

Significance of the Study
To the Students
To let the students know if playing computer games can help them to improve their academic by having less time in computer and their closeness to their family. This study can also help in knowing the common problems that are encountered in playing computer games.
To the Parents
To let the parents know if it is the time to control their freedom in their computer habits.
To the School
To let the school know how many people addicted and their reason why they play computer games.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study covers the insights of the 284 high school students about the common computer games and effects to the students. The survey was conducted at

    As a result of the stigmatization video games have received, many people view them as nothing more than entertainment at best and harmful to a child’s development at worst, neither side realizing the hidden assets of video games in relation to learning. For the terms of this argument, video games will be defined as any electronic or computerized game played via a game console, computer or hand-held device. It is unfortunate that the benefits of these games are not largely recognized, especially within the public school system, as the methods used in teaching today’s youth are outdated and are becoming less effective, creating the need for a different methodology.
