The theme for “The Lottery” is, People need to speak out for what’s right even if society says different. If not it can lead to mental, physical or spiritual death.
In the beginning of the story the author introduces the theme by giving a distressing feel to the story. The author says, “the children assembled first, of course. School was recently over for the summer and the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them. This shows that people were dreading this part of the year.
Later in the story they start listing off names of the main people in the story. These names represent the plot of this story. As in Mr. Summers who is in charge of the lottery host it in the summer. Mr. Graves sends people to their graves. Old man
