Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to be smart when it comes to sex.
Introduction:
Do you honestly believe that everyone around you is practicing safe sex? According to a sex survey taken by the leading condom brand, Durex, in 2005, 51% of adults in America have had unprotected sex without knowing their partner’s sexual history. So what’s the big deal about having safe sex, you ask? That’s simple. Safe sex can save lives because I don’t believe that anyone could possibly have a body to “die” for. A wise poet once said, “safe sex is great sex, you better wear a latex, ‘cause you don’t want that late text, that ’I think I’m late’ text.” So wrap it up!
Teens our age are dealt with the common consequence of pregnancy after having unprotected sex. And being that they are babies themselves, they don’t know the first thing about being fully responsible for another life.
The American Social Health Association estimates that there are at least 15 million new cases of STI’s every year. Although a few of these infections can be treated, not many can be cured. Many symptoms aren’t immediate or hardly even show, so one may not even know they’re living with an STI and can infect another if they don’t use protection.
Half of the new HIV infections in the U.S occur in people between the ages of 13–24. That means us. Are we living under the assumptions that HIV and AIDS can’t affect us? Well guess what, we are dead wrong. HIV AIDS and STD aren’t racist, or sexist, nor do they stereotype, they just love the people who don’t act smart.
Conclusion:
I don’t think anyone would disagree with me now when I say safe sex is the best kind of sex. It’s just as fun and there’s less anxiety afterwards. If you’re going to have sex, then be smart and protect yourself. But if you’re willing to sacrifice your life for another one, whether it be a baby’s life or a new life dedicated to treating, but never curing infections, then that choice is yours.
