They Died With Their Boots On: Video Analysis
The first video clip from, They Died with Their Boots On, had one specific part to it that stood out. Just like any paintings, it showed a brief couple of seconds of George standing on top of the hill alone, and even though he was surrounded by Indians he went down swinging. The way this clip showed the 7th was in a very interesting way, they showed none of the other soldiers standing except for George. This made it easy to pick out which one he was but also it made it easy to show that he was a proud strong fighter with courage. It also showed him dying like a hero. He was surrounded by Indians and out of ammo in both of his pistols, yet he still pulled out his sword and looked death directly in the eyes. The second video clip from, Sons of Morning Star, showed something very interesting. It showed the historic pose of George looking death in the eyes just like all the paintings depict but what it also showed is something very interesting. It showed him not being the last man alive. One thing I thought was very interesting is when it showed George going down, it also showed the 7th flag going down. The reason for this was to show that it truly was the end and that no one was going to overcome the battle. This video clip showed George as more of a leader and not a fighter. It didn’t show him actually firing shots at the …show more content…

This video clip made it very easy to tell which character was George due to him wearing his yellow and white clothing. In this video clip though, instead of being shown as a hero who went down fighting, he was shown as a man who was almost going insane. He still went down proud and in this video just like the first he went down as the final man

During the American Revolution Soldiers weren’t the only ones who were at high risk of death. For example in the small town of Redding, Connecticut there was a variety of different opinions on war. Unlike like most happy stories and fairytales there was no good side, there might have been a good cause but no side was considered innocent. The Patriots were killing someone for a crime they did or looked like they were committing even if they were fighting for their side. The British were exaggerating situations to get a chance to execute a fellow loyalist or Patriot. In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by, James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier,…

While at first George holds to his anti-war principle when he says, “it’s every war — so stupid; it makes me sick. Why shouldn’t this thing have been settled reasonability?” (309) But this principle is quickly abandoned. While at a meeting at the town hall, George gets carried away with the war fever and fails to stand for his beliefs. Following the meeting, George in his drunk state finds Editha and tells her the news, “Well, you must call me Captain, now; or cap, if you prefer… they selected me for captain, and I’m going to the war, the big war, the glorious war, the holy war, ordained by the pocket providence that blesses butchery.” (311) This complete one hundred and eighty-degree turn, causes him to fall into the romance of war. George quickly becomes consumed with the idea of going off to war. And even after sobering up, his resolve does not sway. Whether rooted in honor or whatever, George continues to keep his back turned to the principles he was raised into. George continues when he tells Mr. Balcom, “We all want to be in the van”. (314) Certainly, no man who stands by an anti-war principle would be eager to be the first to meet the Governor and then ship off to war. However, because of the romanticizing that George does towards war, leads him to turn his back on his…

For me, it was surprising to find out George was a prankster who liked to mess around with people. In the story he was always portrayed as a loner with no friends, but he was actually someone who was fun to be around. I wonder what made him change to not wanting anyone in his life. For example, in the book it talks about how Higginbotham would try calling him and sending letters, but none of those things worked to get George to speak to him (290). Even though it never states why George drifted apart from his friends, we were told George was a hoarder. Maybe he was too embarrassed of people figuring it out, which caused him to push people away. Whatever the case was, people in his past life “found him difficult to crack open” (Kleinfield 288). Even Frank, who was George’s friend for fifteen years, didn’t really know…

An amazing heartfelt and empowering film about a soldier who returns home after serving the British army to his small town and takes revenge on the people who tormented his dimwitted brother. Dead Man's Shoes, directed by Shane Meadows is a simple tale of revenge and retribution. There is immediate sense of realism from the get go and that is what gives the film its strength. We feel like watching real people in unreal situation. The writing was good and the cinematography sets the tone of the film really well. Paddy Considine gave a great performance probably the best of that year.…

Paul Revere’s engraving of the Boston Massacre in 1770 epitomizes the colonist’s goal at the time. His historic masterpiece, “The Bloody Massacre in King-Street,” is considered one of the most effective pieces of war propaganda in American history. Not an accurate depiction of the actual event, it shows an orderly line of British soldiers firing into a crowd. The colonists are depicted as reacting to the British when in fact they had attacked the soldiers. The British soldiers appear as if they are enjoying the violence, more than enough to bring out the viewer’s sympathy.…
