No effective recommendation of eating mindful from Thich Nhat Hanh In The World We Have, Thich Nhat Hanh suggests having a mindful diet, such as consuming less or being a vegetarian, will save many hungry people in the world and can improve our environment of the earth (23). He claims that because of the unmindful consumption, the earth has a bad situation now and may continue if we don’t make a change. Then he advocates us to eat mindfully, and practice the “Four Kinds of Nutriments” so that we can limit our unlimited consumptions. In his point of view, we are eating and destroying the earth by ourselves because eating meat from animals can create many bad influences in climate change, global warming and even greenhouse gases (25). He deeply believes that by cutting down the meat of our meal or even being a vegetarian will finally solve the hungry problems in other countries and save the environment of our planet. I’m interested in this recommendation because it’s an argumentative recommendation which raises a controversy and my deeply thinking about whether it can be done or not. It seems to be an irresistible trend for people who care about environment and recycle; they try to cut down the times of eating meat from animals and save water at the same time. In addition, the obesity rates also goes up year by year and that’s why many nutritionist and doctors advise people eating more natural food rather than animals’ meat. From the point of view of nutrition, it’s a good question to be discussed too. And since modern people pay more attention to a healthy diet, the trend of eating less meat is also becoming an upward tendency. Some people indeed think they can gain enough from vegetables and fruits. I think for this recommendation, people should consider both pros and cons in order to get a comprehensive

    “In Defense of Food” is a book written by Michael Pollan which was released in 2008. Pollan writes about the “Western Diet” and the dangers associated with it. He proposes a new answer to what we should and should not eat. He states that it comes down to seven simple words: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. Those are the words that he opens the book with, this is his basic recommendation. He states that the rest of the book is just a detailed elaboration of those words.     When it comes to the topic of nutrition, most us will readily agree that in order to live a long and healthy life one must eat right and choose nutritious alternatives to preserved and fast food products. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how this can “healthy lifestyle” can be obtained. Whereas some are convinced that trusting yourself and your body will lead to better choices, others maintain that eating food in moderation and more fruits and vegetables is the best path to choose. “Today, more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies and lack of physical exercise.” In other words, there needs to be change in how we go about our daily diet. Mary Maxfield believes in the moralization of food and that if you are thin you will live longer while on the other had if you are overweight you will not live a long and fit life. My view on the benefits of healthy eating is that you can eat what you want to, but in moderation. I also believe that exercising, growing your own food, and consistently choosing the right kinds of foods will help create a happier and healthier society.
