Think Piece: Liar King
Kellyander Morris

June 12th 2015

The Caribbean is beautiful place, with distinct culture, filled with many talented singers and songwriters. The song King liar was written and song by one of fellow “caribbeanites” Lord Nelson(aka Robert Nelson). He was born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago but seeked fame in the United States of America and found it in his own backyard as a calypso artist. The song Liar king became very popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s (AllMusic.com 2015).
“Liar liar pants on fire” a common chant practice by children in the Bahamas when they know the child in whom they are conversating is not telling the truth. Talking about lies take me back to my childhood when I could not use the word “lie”! My mom would slap our mouths off if she heard us using the word lie, for us we had to say storying. At time from yards across the room we would shout out to our mom when one of our siblings was not telling the truth and say “Mommy Kelly storying”. Today storying is not a word to describe lying in my household, my kids just blurt out from across the room “mommy lia lying”. To lie is to be untruthful about the facts. according to Merriam Webster dictionary lying is defined as “marked by or containing falsehoods”.
When I heard the song about becoming a lying king I laughed. The storyline was so funny and it always amazes me how Caribbean artist can make a song from just about anything. Lying is sometime done unconsciously as well as intentionally. Sometimes it is done to protect and other times it may be done to inflict harm. Hearing the song it came across more of a storytelling rather than lying. However it was quite entertaining. Being apart of the Caribbean culture i understand what the artist was trying to converse to the audience about how competitive we as humans can be, even in something as trivial as lying.

"You Lie" is a sturdy, acoustic number that confidently and aggressively addresses an unfaithful man. The attitude is at the strongest when she suggests killing him and doing the whole world a service. Now, that's harsh. What makes the song work even better is the high attention to detail: she doesn't just fling his ring off a bridge, she explicitly tells how she drives to the middle of a mile-long bridge, then flings the ring off and says that it'll stay there until the Second Coming.…

Lying is something that people do in their daily lives, whether they choose to admit or not is their decision. It has become normal for children as well as adults to lie in their lives to avoid saying something they do not want to. Adults do it sometimes when they want to keep their children happy and avoid them from being sad if parents tell them the truth. Now children do lie quite more than adults for their own reasons. The real question is why do children lie? Children lie often because they think the truth hurts people’s feelings and they are afraid of telling the truth.…

First off let me start of by saying that we lie. We all do. We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. Like most people, I find myself in situations of small falsehoods and still think of my self of an honest person. Sure I lie, but it’s not really bothering anyone or anything.…

    Sympathy for the Devil

I’m going to start off by discussing the lyrics of the song and what they are about. I noticed that one of the lines “every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners saints” seems to suggest that the devil isn’t that bad, and that all people have some devil in them. There seems to be confusion of good and evil. The devil is portrayed as “a man of wealth and taste” and polite as well by greeting using “let me please introduce myself.” Another line, “hope you guess my name, but what’s puzzling is the nature of my game” intrigued me. This line is not the songwriter saying that I hope you guess that its me playing the devil, it means that the devil is saying I hope you can recognize me because I may be in disguise and I don’t do evil myself, I trick people into doing it for me.…

    Bohemian Rhapsody Essay

Though it is clear that many songs have great impact on an audience, very few are as musically astute and brilliantly constructed as Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” written and arranged by lead vocalist and pianist, Freddie Mercury. Perhaps because of its intense subsequent commercialization, the musical elements of the song have often been overlooked; however, cautious listening to the piece demonstrates that the lyrics and musical elements fuse together and complement each other to create a whole much larger than the sum of its parts. Throughout the song, which is broken up into three distinct sections, each part carries the message of the song but in a different light. This song is one that is very atypical of its genre.…

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. this is the alphabet!!!! do you know: that there are 26 alphabet and with these you can write a lot of words. If you put them together, you will get an sentence. and a lot of sentences together, this will be an paragraph. If 3 and more paragraphs are together, then you will get an essay! YAY !!! Why do I have to upload something to open an account? whose idea was it? I think that this is stupid because if I want to read articles, that doesn't mean I have something to tell others. I thought I could upload it later. But I really want to read that one, so now I'm writing the things that I am thinking now. I wonder how long does it has to be? Are ten lines enough? If not, than I would give up and read something else!!!! Because I am not that stupid and write so much thing for only one stupid account. It should be voluntary, then probably a lot of people will read your articles and essay but now, I am sure only every tenth one would do this. I has experienced this before: i wanted to open this account a long time before but only until now, I decided to do it. this will be my last sentence even though I am not sure if I have ten lines. bye bye :)…

    Fact about LIE

Nearly any adult will tell you that lying is wrong. But when it comes to avoiding trouble, saving face in front of the boss, or sparing someone’s feelings, many people find themselves doing it anyway. In fact, more than 80 percent of women admit to occasionally telling what they consider harmless half-truths, says Susan Shapiro Barash, author of Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets: The Truth About Why Women Lie (St. Martin’s Press, $15, amazon.com). And 75 percent admit to lying to loved ones about money in particular. The tendency to tell tales is “a very natural human trait,” explains David L. Smith, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy at the University of New England, in Biddeford, Maine. “It lets you manipulate the way you want to be seen by others.” To pinpoint how people stretch the truth from time to time and the potential fallout from it, learn the six most common ways that people mislead.…
