Blood Drives and blood donations are a key factor in what helps many people today. The importance of blood donations is so important because you save three lives with one donation. Imagine the looks on those peoples faces knowing you helped save they're life. Giving blood not only saves lives and other people but it replenishes you blood. Once they take it out it has to replinish and you get a fresh set on blood. As you give it your helping one person in the world that you dont even know about. It can also be used for people in the future. Blood donations are needed everywhere because we can never get enough of it. There are more than 14,000 donations every day and every two seconds somebody needs blood. That person could be in Alabama. People in Alabama need blood just as much as people in other areas. The process of donation and storage is actually a very interesting thing. First, the donors give one pint of blood and small test tubes to fill with blood. Next, your blood Is shipped to be tested for anything that may have contaminated it. Red Cross then will test your blood to make sure it is positive and can be used for the transfusions and other needs of it. They then label the blood and store it in refrigerators at 6 degrees Celsius for up to 42 days. Then it shipped out to people who need in in various hospitals. This amazing process is what gives many people a second chance at life. But there are rules if you want to help save someone. You have to be at least 16 with a parents consent to give blood and you have to weigh at least 110 pound. During yor time between giving blood and waiting to give it again you need to wait 51 days before you can give blood again. This gives your body time to replenish the blood it has already lost.
