My Life in Letters
When I was told to write a paper about myself, I actually thought it was something I could ace in a whim. Turns out, it was actually harder than having to write about something you can research. I just figured, writing something about yourself is just like finding the ground of yourself, knowing where you come from and the elements that make you what and who you are. Yeah, for some people it does seem pretty easy. But from where I’m coming from, it’s a whole different story. Let me start off by sharing a little biography about me. My name is Denice Mikaela Bayson Mendoza a..k.a Mikee. I’m 20 years old and I live in Makati City. I studied pre-school, elementary and high school in St. Scholastica’s College Manila but got kicked out after my freshman year due to misbehaviour and bad grades. It’s not as ominous as it seems but I was actually going through a very rough time back then. I had an unruly behaviour because I was severely depressed caused by family dilemmas in our home and personal issues that I was trying to deal with. I was in a phase were I didn’t care about the consequences of my actions. I’d speak out my mind regardless of how people might feel or if it was going to offend anybody in any way. I answered back to my teachers, I was always sent to the office for other misdemeanours and I got suspended too. On the last 2 weeks of my freshman year which was the period of our finals, I failed my exams on purpose because of my parents’ break up which occurred on the same couple of weeks. Worst part is, my parents don’t even know what I was going through, and nobody from my family did. After that, I was out of school for 2 years. 50/100 of those 2 years were pretty much a waste. But the other 50, I was able to reflect over my life and actually tried to find myself. It didn’t help at all because the depression stayed with me. Now, going back to the main subject, I’m a person who’s right brain is

First, Melinda’s phase of depression takes her to her art class, as an escape from reality and the harsh comments thrown at her. At first she was hesitant about drawing trees for her art project but when she started, her first few were all hit by lightning and nearly dead, which symbolize her fearful emotions. Although she tried to talk, no one listened to her. “I can’t tell them what really happened. I can’t even look at that part of myself” (p.28). That is, she could not tell them anything because she was afraid of being judged. Since she judges herself; she thinks others will definitely judge her the same way. Yet her secret was hurting her so much she could feel it throughout her body. “There’s a beast in my gut. I can hear it scraping away at the insides of my ribs” (p.51). Her depression was…

The admission of this patient has proven to be yet another impulsive action made by desperate parents. This patient, although exhibiting many symptoms of depression and grief caused by the death of a loved one, is not showing any signs of serious mental illness or instability. He is obviously an independent individual, rebellious as well. He is not hesitant to make known his opinions and thoughts. He seems to be a very cynical individual, most likely resulting from previous events that have occurred in his life. Though he doesn’t mention it much, he seems to be deeply affected by the death of his brother Allie Caulfield. He seems to miss him greatly, which could be the cause of the contemptuous attitude shown in his behavior. In addition, he witnessed the suicide of a fellow classmate a few years ago. Although they were not close, this is still a very traumatic event and can deeply influence one’s life, especially when witnessed at a young age. The patient does not seem to be at all motivated by anything except for his family. He especially seems unmotivated about school. This may be the result of seeing the death of a classmate caused by torment at school. Seeing an extreme negative result of school may have caused a similarly negative attitude toward it. Caulfield doesn’t speak much about any friends that he has, though he mentions some of his old roommates and classmates from previous school years occasionally. While Caulfield exhibits behavior that may be interpreted as depression by many concerned parents, it is nothing more than the typical effect of teenage hormones. The patient may seem like he has some sort of mental instability, but this impulsive and reactive behavior is simply a product of pubescent hormones mixed with his natural rebellious actions and attitude.…

This article was full of information in the transition to adulthood. It begins with a history of becoming an adult. This article takes you through comparisons of the statistics from the past to now. This article gives you an idea on the difference between race and ethnic backgrounds. It also provides support for its findings. What I found interesting in this article is that back in the day, which young people viewed adulthood as a requirement at an early age. Nowadays young people are taking a lot longer to transition to adulthood, they are completing college and finding careers, I think is a great thing. Children need to focus on their education and the opposite sex. I think it is important for young men and women to have a plan of action about where their life is headed. I think today we are more thinkers then doers, I think we are looking into the long-term affect more now. This also gave me statics on when the kids become independent, the past versus present, male, female, and race. I choose this article because I have a step son in the military; this article gave me ideas on how fast they are required to step into adulthood. It was interesting to discover the difference between the age groups, races and what programs they are involved in. If I had to write a research paper this would be the article I would use. This is an interesting topic that I think I could take further. After reviewing this article I feel this is a creditable source, it has supporting facts and documentation to back up its findings, reads well the flow is right. This was definitely a very informative piece of work and you can tell the author spent their time and effort on this as well.…

It is quite interesting to look at my life thus far and see how specific things helped me – or forced me – to develop. Every sad or hurtful thing included in this paper has given me a more positive quality in some way. I do not regret anything that I have done because it all has shaped me into the woman I am today, and I think that I like her. Parents play a tremendous role in how one develops, I see now why secure attachments are so important. Parents are the first line of defense when it comes to a person’s psychological well-being. If parents do not do a good job of protecting their child, it will lead to difficulties later in life. The role of stress and trauma are closely related in development, after all one cannot have trauma without stress. From writing this paper I have learned that it is the biggest heartaches that make you stronger as a person. And even though you may not see the positive impact of the people close to you on a day-to-day basis, they help shape you as a person. I am incredibly thankful for the few people who accept me for who I have become and will treasure them forever. I may be a fatherless “daddy’s girl,” but I will not let that stop me from striving to make him…

I wrote mainly about my journey in discovering my own self-knowledge. I wrote about growing up, finding my way, and figuring out who I am. I do believe that executive functioning and interpersonal self-played a role, but not as much as self-knowledge did. Overall, I believe what I wrote about me finding self-knowledge, an interpersonal self, and my executive function. I think all those things combined help in finding one’s identity during adolescence.…

What impact do all of our past experiences and relationships, the good and the bad, have on our identities and sense of self? The self is a key construct in several schools of psychology, broadly referring to the cognitive and affective representation of one's identity. In the book Cat's Eye by Margaret Attwood, Elaine's identity and her perceived sense of self is dynamic and all her positive and negative experiences and relationships have helped shape it, as well as my past experiences and relationships have shaped me into who I am today. Much of the important experiences that have contributed to forming Elaine's identity occurred while she was still a child, as this is crucial time in her life to developing her personality and how she interacts with her peers and future relationships. Similarly, the experiences and relationships as a child have had a tremendous impact on my sense of self and the development of my personality. When Elaine enters high-school, her entire identity shifts from being serene and introverted to callous extroversion and notoriety. Likewise, my identity also shifted but not as radically as Elaine's, and I feel I gained great insight and personal growth during my time in high-school. Although we may be very different people in our teenage and adult years, our experiences and relationships as children have an everlasting impact on our developing identities.…

Going through many situations and conflicts at North Cape led me in temporary unfortunate paths, but greatly impacted my reason to try and change to become a more successful individual in my education and life that made a permanent change. It all started 7th grade year, I wasn't trying, it was as simple as that, until I received a suspension that was for an unnecessary conflict. The depression sparked in tenth grade. It swept me into an ominous and obscure path to shame, calamity, and unresolved traumas. My condition was undiagnosed and untreated, so my behavior remained the same. I developed unhealthy relationships and feelings for individuals who could not and would never respect or appreciate my existence. In complete conflict with whom I wanted to be, who I saw myself as, and who I was, I found myself entering the realm of emotional instability.…

It was the year 2012, when I experienced a life-changing event, which led to my transition from childhood into adulthood. This event was my parent’s divorce. During this time I was scared and hurt, because my parents’ separation not only meant the parting of my parents-but parting from the life I’ve always known as a child. The separation moved at an almost mockingly lackadaisical pace. Months tediously dragged on, and even after the legal separation my life was never as it once was. I started to appreciate the people who were present in my life and how precious family stability is. The idea of losing my mother or father to divorce made me realize that this could have easily been a loss due to an illness. I grew to appreciate that I am lucky to have them in my life period. It was at this time that I seriously thought about working in health care; a field that aims to prolong human lives. This event of my childhood that some might even call traumatic, bettered me, and brought me into the adult world.…

I’ve never been good at very many things. In fact, I quit or failed almost everything I’ve been involved in pertaining to school or extracurricular activities. I wanted to accomplish something that my parents would be proud of but I didn’t have much motivation. It wasn’t until my freshman year that I decided to work harder to achieve something to be proud of; I was just waiting around for the success to come to me. I quickly learned that I wasn’t going to get anywhere that way.…

Despite the constant pressure put on Korean students by their parents, I believe that the “All-Work, No-Play” culture, created by an imbalance between a demanding school environment and stress relieving extracurricular activities, has contributed to the devastatingly high suicide rate. Although my ideas are theoretical, I believe Johns Hopkins’s research program will allow me the opportunity to research the sociological factors that have caused the decline in health for teens. I will be able to nurture my abilities to work in a team, raise awareness and grow as a leader, while also being given an opportunity to contribute to the development of the future. My dedication to help bring answers to parents who have lost their children to a highly demanding school life will not falter as I also wish to prevent this tragedy from permeating our…
