This I Believe
This I Believe

I believe that people need to take more time to appreciate the little things in life. This is my belief because sometimes the smallest things in life can mean the most to you. Take for example if one of your family members or close friends pass away and you have something to remember them by. The item you may have may be useless to someone else but to you it means the world. The little things in life may be some of the things that get you through your everyday routine. They could even be considered as something big that someone else may want or need. For example, your mom goes out and purchases you a shirt and it isn’t quite up to you standards. You would probably throw it out thinking that you can just go out and replace it. While you’re doing that, there are many kids in this world that don’t have a singe piece of clothing to call their own. To them it would be a miracle if they had the shirt you got rid of. Sometimes it can be the smallest unexpected things that can make such a big difference to us in life. While you may be shooting for the big things, why not try to shoot for something smaller? You never know how big the smallest things turn out to be. Something so small as a smile can have a huge impact on someone who is having a bad day. Telling a loved one “I love you” may be all they need to hear to make it through their day or maybe even their week. Those things are really small aren’t they? Yet they can have such a huge impact and you would never know it. I’ll end this short essay with a quote that caught my eye, “The blind only wish to see, the deaf only wish to hear and the mute only wish to speak. Things that seem of just little value to us, can be all that someone else wants… appreciate even the little things in life… many are less fortunate.” This quote caught my eye because it simply states that we as people need to stop taking the little things in life for granted because everyone is not as fortunate as the next.

Simplicity is the secret key that unlocks the shackles of confusion, and inferiority. and Confusion and inferiority is what we visualize so much of life to be? In some cases, and without hope, life nearly becomes as difficult as a Chinese fire drill. People need a new outlook; the outlook of faith, simple childlike faith. We need to hold onto hope.…

No matter how small the impact is, it will always make a big impact. Volunteering is not about how big the action is, the littlest things will build a base for the future. Smiles and laughing are contagious. In order to make the best out of every volunteer activity, I have learned to always keep a smile on my face. This not only applicable in volunteering, but also in everyday activity. Whenever I see someone looking upset, I always smile and wave. That small gesture can change their entire day.…

Aesop, an ancient Greek storyteller, once said, ”No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Small acts of kindness can have huge impacts on others. First, small acts of kindness might cause the domino effect. Second, acts of kindness can make people’s day. Finally, doing small acts of kindness makes you a good role model for younger people. As a result, a small act of kindness can make a positive impact on another person’s life.…

The excerpt of “The Things They Carried” inspired me to write about minimalism and the burden that excessive amounts of possessions can create and how ultimately it can weigh down an individual’s happiness. It inspired me to write about this topic by listing off all the things the soldiers in the story had to carry and how much each thing weighed. It made me think about how unhappy carrying the heavy equipment might have made each soldier and how unhappy I was with the things weighing me down. To introduce an audience who knew nothing about minimalism I’d introduce them to it by talking about the primary purpose of minimalism. The primary purpose of minimalism is to declutter a person’s life and get rid of unessential things that just end…

that people who have disabilities should not be looked at or thought of no different than any other person. I have a cousin that has a disability and I don’t think of it as a bad thing. But some people look at people with a disability and judge them because of it. Sometimes I think to myself what if that were you, what if it was one of your best closest friends. Would you treat them like they are a nothing or a nobody. Or would you still hang out with them and be a nice person and stand up for them when they are in need.…

For instance, suffering and illness impact greatly how we value not only our lives but also our loved one’s lives. When we suffer if makes us appreciate the things we had once taken for granted that much more. Roger Ebert’s wife states,”..he had one or two weeks of hope and relief when he could eat a little and drink a little and talk a little. Once, the surgery looked nearly perfect.”(Roger Ebert) When we see our loved one’s suffering or ill it helps us value every chance we get to spend with them.
