The character Thomas Builds-The-Fire from This is What it Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona helps his named friend Victor, by giving him some money and going all the way to Arizona. Victor father had just passed away and is in very much need of money to help bury his father and get his belongings from where his passed away at. Thomas has known victor for a very long period of time, they use to play together as boys, but soon faded away from each other over a fight. Thomas is a full blood-Indian who is a story-teller that many other indians dislike and didn't want to listen too. Most of his stories were crazy and repetitive. No one wanted to even speak to him, they were too embarrassed. Thomas Builds-The-Fire always came up with a story for everyone

Thomas provided a leaning shoulder for Victor as he goes through a rough time.
For instance, when Victor saw Thomas and thought he could help, suddenly Thomas said “ I can lend you the money you need; even though Thomas hasn't seen victor in years. Victor even told Thomas that they are not friends anymore, still Thomas wants to help out a old friend. Thomas builds-The-Fire wasn't someone everyone liked but was actually someone who no one liked. As Thomas and victor haven't talked in a long time they still have that bond from being kids, as they both laughed and spent the night together. As victor was going through a rough time Thomas was there to help lighten up the moment, and helped Victor actually miss Thomas miss as a friend. Once Thomas and victor got to Victor’s father trailer and got his belongings Thomas helped him the whole way to feel better about the situation, by the telling little stories that made victor smile. When they both got Victor dad’s ashes they put them into a box, Victor dad's ashes did not fit all into one box so they had to put some in a smaller box. Thomas made the situation better by making a joke say Victor dad will always be a big man.When Thomas and Victor got back to their home Victor had given Thomas the extra small box containing his father ashes. He wanted to repay him for being there for him as he never given anything away before, Thomas meant more. Thomas once took the box and smiled.Thomas once again and told Victor another story, but
this story was different it stuck to victor he listened and it made him smile.
Thomas Builds-The-Fire is introduced as a caring, and very loyal character. At time Thomas comes off annoying to others and a embarrassment, but at other times he is caring and shares the best stories he could tell. While meeting up with a old friend he doesn't re-think anything from the past and truly accepts Victor as a friend, and helps him out like a real friend would. At the end of the story Victor accepts Thomas for the way he is and gives him the best gift anyone could be given. Thomas is true friend and true friend bonds don't break.
