reason why he is my favorite president out of the first five is because he has a mission to change the amount of power the government put on themselves. One of the phrases that defined his presidency was, “We are all Federalists. We are all Republicans.” He believed his election was like a second revolution. Jefferson did not intend to follow the Federalist model for the presidency and wanted to change it. In the ending of his presidency, we can surely say that he achieved that goal. Thomas Jefferson was a master manipulator. He did not acknowledge his power towards anyone but knew how to use it effectively. The use of the president’s mansion and office was “symbolically downgraded” from the way Jefferson used it. He hosted informal supper parties by allowing his guests to sit anywhere. It is known that he sometimes greeted his guests in his house slippers. He had a casual tone for protocol and official behavior. Although he casually used the office, he used it effectively by doing those things. Just by doing this, it made him more of a brilliant politician. The press was part of his manipulation of power during his presidency.
He understood and handled the press well. An accusation was brought upon him of having an affair with one of his slaves. He handled the press by doing absolutely nothing. Jefferson is the kind of man that does not say anything he does not want to talk about. Everyone still has their flaws. Under Jefferson’s presidency, there was an uprising conflict. This conflict was about the trade with Europe or France. American merchants were trading with both Europe and France and that infuriated them. A foolish decision he made was issuing the Embargo Act of 1807 which stated no trade with other countries. He believed that America did not have to be involved with other countries and to just deal with America itself. To conclude, Jefferson is my favorite president because he wanted to change the overpowered government and did, he manipulated people with his power by not showing it, and maturely managed the press’ false allegations toward him. Although he had his ups and down, his achievements are greatly acknowledge and used today. His personality is a very unique and appealing personality because of his actions with the president’s
mansion.
