In The Common Sense Paine said, "might never form to themselves an interest separate from the ELECTORS, prudence will point out the propriety of having elections often." He wanted a government to run by elections. Today we vote for officials in the county, state, and country.
In The Common Sense Paine says, “I draw my idea of the form of government from a principle in nature which no art can overturn, viz. that the simpler any thing is, the less liable it is to be disordered, and the easier repaired when disordered." He wanted to have a simple government. Our government is simple, all of our
rules are based on one document, the U.S. Constitution. This document has only 7 articles and has only been changed 27 times in the past 200 years.
In The Common Sense it states. "That a thirst for absolute power is the natural disease of monarchy." He also thought that the ruler shouldn't have complete control over everybody. Now we have the Congress which is made up of the Senate and House of Representatives who are the Legislative (the ones who make the rules). Next there is the president, vice president, and Cabinet who are all Executives (carries out the laws). Then the Supreme court and other Federal courts are both Judicial (they evaluate laws). So now not one person makes all of the laws.
