Thorin's Leadership Qualities

As John C. Maxwell once said, “A leader is someone who knows the ways, goes the way, and shows the way.” An ideal leader would be someone who is altruistic, educated, and audacious. In the novel, The Hobbit, authored by J.R.R Tolkien, one of the protagonists, Thorin Oakenshield is said to be one of the most prodigious commanders. However, Thorin is almost the complete opposite of the traits and qualities listed previously. One of the main qualities Thorin demonstrates is greed, greed is the intense feeling of want and need for wealth, power or others precious things. This is displayed when Thorin finally gets his family’s fortune back, from the help of other beings. Once the treasure is returned to him, he was asked to share a small portion of it, he then denies this suggestion because he was overcome with greed. Avarice and self-indulgence are one of the last and most unwanted elements a leader should possess.
In this novel, Thorin relies on another character named Bilbo Baggins to complete all hardships that their troop may encounter. I believe that Thorin is feeling apprehensive and nervous towards the notion of taking responsibility. In conclusion, a resolute leader is someone who is willing and excited to take charge, instead of someone who forces or encourages others to do the job rather than themselves.
To be a heroic leader you must endeavor with your full capability to achieve all things that are within your authority. Unlike Thorin, Bilbo is the quintessential commander, he is gallant, wise and noble. Above all, leadership is the most crucial component in any association.
