“No one ever thanked him” (5.) Line 5 in this poem basically reads that no one ever thanked the father in the poem. He was the real definition of “the man of the house.” He wakes up every morning, even Sundays to work for his family. He works for his family, but he doesn’t get appreciated for it. “Fearing the chronic angers of that house” (9). It seemed as if the boy went through problems with the people in his house. He was scared of what he might had to face with his family that day.
The author was trying to say that life isn’t always sweet. He mentions how the dad woke up every morning and did what he had to do for his family. He realized that men have responsibilities and they take care of them
no matter what the situation is.
When I was younger, my grandfather made sacrifices everyday for me and my brothers. Through all his pains and troubles, he would get up and did what we asked of him although he was sickly. Growing up I didn't realize how much my parents went through to get what I wanted and even the needs. My mom always told me I wouldn’t know the value of a dollar until I get older. True enough, I realize the value now.
