Four years ago, on a normal Thursday school night, I was sitting in my room doing my homework and my aunt came bursting into the door saying my brother was kidnapped. I did not want to believe what I heard and kept asking her to repeat herself. I ran outside of the house and screamed because my emotional pain became so hard that my stomach felt like it was tied in strong ropes and I was ripping apart, I was devastated because my only brother was gone, I didn’t know if I would ever see him again, I did not even have a chance to say goodbye. I was angry at myself, at the people that took him. Life seemed impossible to live during the days he was kidnapped. My family finally came up with the ransom the kidnapers were asking for and through a miracle…

It made me a kinder more considerate person who loves to brighten people’s day because happiness was a kind of hard for me to find in middle school. It helped me to value the friendships that I do have because I actually had none before. As a nice little bonus, it also had me read “To Kill A Mockingbird” twice along with plenty of Edgar Allen Poe before I needed to in high school. But, all-in-all, middle school and all of its glory made me who I…

An event that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood would be the day I moved to the United States From Dominican Republic four years ago. I was fourteen years old when my family and I decided to change our lives. My mother always wanted a better future for our family., therefore she decided this would be the best for all of us. At first it was indubitable difficult for me to become accustomed to a new country, leaving the rest of my family behind. A country where I was required to learn a new language and learn so many new things to improve not only the way I was in school but also learn how to improve myself internally. It was a challenge, but I am proud to say that even if I had atrocious days where people criticized me by reason…

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

The beginning of my freshman year in high school changed my life. I had set many types of goals for myself this year including making friends, helping others and being a part of the most incredible organization, Blue Guards. Blue Guards is apart of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Oxon Hill High School. Blue Guards was not only a drill team, it was a family, a family of girls and boys working together, leading others, having discipline, and respecting each other as a team. Walking into the first day of school knowing I was going to be part of this team made me light up like a light bulb.…

Middle school was both exciting and frightening. It was exciting because I was able to switch classes and it made me feel older, however it was frightening because I had to impress more than one teacher and adjust to their teaching methods. The first day of middle school was different because that year my father could not see me off to school. My father died unexpectedly a few weeks before my first day of middle school which only added to the stress. Overall my first day was still pretty exciting because I knew I was going to meet new people. I was excited to see some of my old friends in the same class with me. I thought the work was going to harder since I was older, but it was not much different from elementary.…

    Who Has Impacted My Life

Once you start school, you meet more people and experience more events that could possibly impact your life. I have a younger sister and we often compete with grades. This is a very positive impact because it pushes both of us to strive harder to make good grades. Another impact involving school is the transition I had from Lamar Consolidated High School to George Ranch High School when I was in tenth grade. This transition was very rough. The work ethic at George Ranch was way more demanding than it was at Lamar. At first, I thought this was a negative impact because of all of the hard work I had to study more for, but when I actually thought about it I realized that all of this hard work will prepare me for college. Therefore, this impact also turned out to be a positive one. Another important thing that has impacted my life is cheerleading. Though many people may think all cheerleaders do is just chant at football games, it is way more than that. We are required to cheer at many of our school’s sporting events and attend most of the school functions. This sometimes becomes really stressful and challenging, especially when I know that I have a…

A big event that has changed my life was when my older brother moved away to go to the navy. This changed my life cause I did not know if I was ever going to see him again. When he told me he was leaving and not going to be back for awhile i thought he was leaving because of me, I was a little brat back then so yeah and at the age i was i thought everything was my fault. The day my brother left was probably the saddest thing to ever happen because me and him would always hang out and play video games or walk around town or do something fun. I remember when we dropped him off at the airport i was clinched on to his leg and i was refusing to let go because I didn’t want him to leave. Now that i look back on it i think one of the reasons why i didn’t want him to leave is because he was kinda like my best friend/ role model so yeah and well he is my older brother and I didn’t want anything to happen to him.…
