Three Phase Induction Motor Lab Report
1. INTRODUCTION

1.1) INTRODUCTION OF 3 PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR: The three phase induction motors are used in many industrial applications due to their reliability, low cost and high performance. Whereas this popular ac motor performance is affected by following type of faults.

1. ELECTRICALLY RELATED FAULTS (33%):
The faults under this classification are single phasing, over/under voltage, overload over temperature.

2. MECHANICAL RELATED FAULTS (32%):
The rotor winding failure, stator winding failure and bearing faults are most occurring mechanical faults in 3 phase induction motor.

3. ENVIRONMENTALLY RELATED FAULTS (15%):
The external moisture, contaminations and ambient temperature also affect the induction motor performance. The vibration of machine also affects the performance of induction machine under various operations.

Electrical related faults are frequently are occurring faults in 3 phase induction machine which will produce more heat on both stator and rotor winding, this leads to reduce the life time of induction machine. This study presents the behavior of three phase induction motor under the unbalanced supply voltage, single phasing and overload condition.

1.2) RISING PROBLEM
…show more content…
For three phase induction motor, it is necessary that all the three phases of supply are present. While it is on load if any one of the phase goes out, or goes missing, the motor will continue to run with two phases only, but it will start drawing a huge current for the same load. This high current may run the motor unless switched off immediately. Failure of any of the phases makes the equipment prone to erratic functioning and may even lead to failure. Hence it is of paramount importance to monitor the availability of the three-phase supply and switch off the equipment in the event of failure of one or two

The experimental setup is shown in Figures 5 and 6. Shows the GA-PID and ACO-PID controllers for a 3-phase 60KW SRM motor which are implemented & simulated by using Matlab-Simulink software program. Motor parameters used for simulation are given in Table 1. Tables 2 and 3 shows the GA-PID and ACO-PID controller’s parameters. the response of Kp, Ki and Kd parameters are summarized on table 4 which shows that the proportional controller “Kp” will have the effect of reducing rise time and will reduce the steady state error while the integral controller “Ki” will have the effect of eliminating the steady state error but will have the worst transient response on a system while the derivative…

Electric motors have no electrical connection between the rotor and the outside world. They operate due to a moving magnetic field induces a current to flow in the rotor. This current flow in the rotor creates the second magnetic field required to produce a torque. The motor was introduced in 1888 and it initiated what is known as the second industrial revolution, making possible the efficient generation and long distance distribution of electrical…

Both winding pitch (2/3rd and of AC generators has influence on the 5/6th) have some pros and cons, correct shape of waveform (harmonic contents) selection for any proposed application and on the level of the fundamental is the key for ensuring a cost effective voltage. The winding pitch will have power supply solution. an influence on neutral circulating current I. Introduction The stator winding pitch of a generator is a design parameter that can be used to optimise the generator waveform shape and minimise the generator cost, because shorter pitch (lower pitch ratios) use the generator stator less effectively and require the use of more electrical steel and copper for the same kW output than higher pitch machines. For example: n /6th pitch windings suppress 5th and 7th voltage 5 harmonics but may enhance the triple harmonics…

The rotor magnetic field is somewhat smaller than the stator magnetic field, because of the losses in the rotor, but they differ by nearly in both space and time. If these two magnetic fields are added at different times, one sees that that the total magnetic field in the motor is rotating in a counterclockwise direction. With a rotating magnetic field present in the motor, the induction motor will develop a net torque in the direction of motion, and that torque will keep the rotor turning.…
