Three Ways to Use Pumpkin Puree During Thanksgiving and Throughout the Year

One of the great things about Thanksgiving is the food. Pumpkin is something that people enjoy throughout the year, but for many people, it is only in the fall they experience this great flavor. If your family and friends enjoy the flavor of pumpkin, you can prepare foods with this popular squash all year long. You only need to use canned pumpkin instead of homemade puree from a fresh pumpkin. The following are three ideas to introduce pumpkin to your family they may want to have on a regular basis.

Pumpkin pancakes
You can use whatever recipe for pancakes that you normally use. Simply add about a third of a cup of pumpkin puree to every two cups of pancake batter

People seem to like pumpkin with bananas, so all you need to do is prepare a banana smoothie and add a couple tablespoons of pumpkin puree. You can also use a favorite strawberry-banana smoothie recipe, but you need to make sure you use plain yogurt, and don't substitute pumpkin for strawberries in the same amount. Only use about a fourth of pumpkin as a substitute for the strawberries. Also you might want to use a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon. You can experiment with the right amount for your taste.

Pumpkin cookies
There are a lot of recipes for making pumpkin cookies, but the fastest way to go about it is to use a box of cake mix. These cake mixes only require water and sometimes an egg. Simply add a can of pumpkin puree or the equivalent in homemade puree to the mix. You can use any mix flavor, but a spice cake mix seems to go best with pumpkin. Use a cookie sheet and make the cookies any size you want.

One important thing to keep in mind when you are preparing pumpkin dishes is when pumpkins are longer season. At this time you must use canned pumpkin, but do not use pumpkin pie filling. There is a significant difference. Canned pumpkin is a puree that is canned. Basically, it is plain pumpkin, so it is versatile. You can add your own spices to a recipe. Pie filling has all of the popular spices for a pumpkin pie already mixed in. This includes cloves, allspice and cinnamon. This may not be ideal for some

Once you have prepared your kitchen you can get started on the recipe. First pour a pound of whole pecans and a teaspoon of cinnamon into the food processor and grind them to a fine chop. If you do not own a food processor you can purchase finely chopped pecans and hand mix the cinnamon into them; however, I do recommend the food processor method because you can chop the pecans to a nearly dust-like consistency. Set the cinnamon pecan blend aside while you start to prepare your dough.…

For the ingredients you’ll need your favorite brownie mix, soft butter to grease the pan, two eggs, ¼ cup of water and ¾ cup of vegetable oil for cookware. You’ll also need a metal or glass pan 13”x 9” and a mix bowl. Next, preheat your oven to a temperature of 350F. Grease the bottom of your glass or metal pan with the soft butter. Then put the brownie mix into the mixing bowl. Put the oil in first and mix it in with the brownie mix and stir with a spoon. Next is the egg; put the eggs in the bowl and continue stirring the mix some more. After that is the water. Put the water into the mix and stir. Keep stirring until the mix is blended well. Pour the mix into pan and spread lightly and evenly until all of the mix is in the pan. Put the pan in the oven and set the timer for 30 mins. Once the brownies finish baking, refrigerate for 15 mins or until set. Then cut into bars using a knife coated with no-stick cooking spray.…

While preheating your oven, prepare the dough! Combine the 2 ¼ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in to your small mixing bowl. You won’t be using these right away, just set that aside while you prepare the rest of your dough. Now grab a large mixing bowl, add 2 sticks of butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and beat the four ingredients with your hand-mixer. Once the ingredients are well mixed together, crack the eggs into the mixture, one at a time. Beat the mixture until it is blended enough. Take the small bowl of dry ingredients, and slowly add small amounts into the already blended bowl. What you will be doing is adding a little, then using the hand-mixer to blend, little by little, until the dry mix is gone. Now you have the cookie dough. But wait! You have one last step! You can’t forget the chocolate chips! I tend to add the whole bag when making this dough, but feel free to add as many as you may please! Once you have added…

This is not your typical Thanksgiving guide. We are not the Food Network so we will not talk about how to cook a Thanksgiving feast. This is more about the behind the scenes footage of Thanksgiving. Instead of what to cook, I want to tap into those holiday nuances like your Mother and Aunt, arguing over who’s making the dressing this year, or the Uncle that has to bring a different woman to dinner every year because he is still trying to get under Aunt Margaret’s skin. You'll get rules on hosting a party, should you bring something if invited, how involved do you want your husband to be, and so on. Here is the rundown of the Do’s and Don’ts of Thanksgiving.…

On Thanksgiving we gather with our family and friends, thinking that we are celebrating everything that we are grateful for and giving thanks to that. We do this by sitting around a large table of smiling faces with a big, hot, succulent, golden brown turkey in the center that went through a horribly miserable death, just to get on our plates in time so we could celebrate our good times through its worst. First, I would like to talk about my own experience. Getting time to spend with my family is one of the greatest traditions, and I am so thankful for that. For having to work long hours and going to school, and everyone else having such a busy schedule. Find that time to have every family member gathers around the table and enjoy a wonderfully…

    Why I Love Thanksgiving

I always know when it is time to eat on Thanksgiving because when everything is ready and set in place on the dining table. Each dish takes up a good amount of time and steps before it is ready to be served. My favorite dish for thanksgiving is sweet potato pies because it can go with everything and it is not very time consuming compared to the other dishes. The first thing my mom does is to boil one pound of sweet potatoes for 40 to 50 minutes in a pot. Burble, burble, burble. Afterwards, she runs cold water over the sweet potato to cool it off. The pot makes a sssssssssssss sound because of the cold water. The sweet potato needs to cool off so she can peel the skin. Thereafter, my mom places the sweet potato on an enormous bowl to break apart. The last part is my favorite because I get to help place the butter and the spices that go in the sweet potato. Also, she lets me help holding the mixer to mix everything. In the end, my mom places the mixed sweet potato on a baking dish and she puts it inside the oven for 50 minutes until it is done.…
