The legendary story of Billy the Kid has been told for over one hundred years. Movies have been made since then, portraying a similar story of Billy the Kid. The popular movie, Young Guns, was made in 1988 and was based around the teenage life of Billy and his posse known as “The Regulators”. However, the movie had many major historical inaccuracies. One example of a historical inaccuracy was the age of Billy’s employer John Tunstall. The movie portrays him as an old fatherly figure to the regulators, however Tunstall was only a few years older than Billy and died when he was twenty-four. The movie also represents the regulators incorrectly. There were more than six regulators and they were not all young fit men, most of them were in their thirties and forties. They also did not call themselves the regulators until after Tunstall’s death. Another example of a historical inaccuracy in the movie Young Guns was the scene where Murphy’s henchmen shoot Tunstall in front of all of the regulators. Tunstall, by himself, was riding horseback and was shot while herding horses back to the ranch. An additional historical inaccuracy was the scene where the regulators are stuck in McSween’s house surrounded by soldiers. In the movie, only five regulators are stuck in the house with Mr. McSween and his wife. In reality, there were about 15 regulators and the battle lasted about five days, not two. At the battle, Billy the kid is shown as killing Murphy for the final scene. No matter how cool the ending was, it was completely inaccurate because Murphy was not shot by the Kid, but died of cancer in Santa Fe. Young Guns is a great movie but the historical inaccuracies in it are very…

I enjoyed this movie, based on a book by the same name by Davis Seals, a Native activist. The story is based in the mid to late 1970’s and begins on the Northern Cheyenne Tribe’s reservation in Lame Deer, Montana. The two lead characters, Buddy Red Bow (A. Martinez) and his acquaintance (who later in the film becomes his friend), Philbert “Phil” Bono (Gary Farmer) travel to Santa Fe to rescue Buddy’s sister, Bonnie Red Bow who has been wrongfully jailed. Buddy finds out that his estranged sister has two small girls and he is determined to bring her back home to the reservation and get her out of jail. Philbert is a free spirit who sees visions and is very gentle natured. He is more in tune with the ancient traditions of their Tribe, stopping frequently to pray and meditate.…

The characters in the novel and movie differ, yet have some similarities. There are the officers, Sam, Virgil and Bill, who are the same people in the novel and movie but have many differences. Some people in the book aren’t even in the movie or have different names which makes quite a difference, especially if they had relationships with people in the movie. For example, in the novel, Chief Gillespie is tall and well built, and in the movie he is short, chubby, and always chewing gum really loudly. Another example is Virgil Tibbs, he is humble and rarely talks back in the novel, “Sam took immediate command. ‘On your feet, black boy,’ he ordered, and crossed the room in five quick steps.”(15) But in the movie, Virgil talks back almost every single time someone talks rude to him, and he is also rude in the movie about some things. Sam Wood and Virgil Tibbs become good friends in the novel, but in the movie Sam and Virgil don’t even become friends, but Virgil and Chief Gillespie became good friends. In the novel the victim’s name is Enrico Mantoli and in the movie he is called Cobert. “Ten minutes later, the body of Maestro Enrico Mantoli was brought in.”(24) In the…

The first hero is the “outlaw hero.” The name gives away much of what this hero is about. The outlaw is sort of the “bad-boy” of the film. They are portrayed as adventurers, cowboys, the vigilante types. Featured mainly in action based films, some examples of the outlaw hero include Huck Finn and Davy Crockett.…

To begin, most of the time, Dr. Seuss’s editing company would come and ask him to create a book that had between 50 to 250 new vocabulary words for kids to learn. As usual this was something that Dr. Seuss never had trouble with. The Cat in the Hat was published with 48 different words. Within those 48 words, more than just the cat coming to a house to entertain the kids way conveyed (Dr. Seuss Biography). Other stories such as Yurtle the Turtle and The Butter Battle Book each have understandable symbols. In addition to symbolism, Dr. Seuss used rhyme as another key to his superlative writing and cartoons. For example, Seuss used rhyme in the Cat in the Hat when he said, “...Make that cat go away! Tell that cat you DO NOT want to play. Dr.…

Some of the events that were in the book were not shown or did not happen in the movie. These were events like the bank note forgeries and some of the things that Squealer said to them like how he convinced them to let the pigs use the apples and milk in their mash. They did not even mention this event in the story. Other things that they did not even mention in the movie were the Sunday meetings and something they didn't mention in the book was Napoleon's addiction to whiskey. One of the main events in the book that were not shown in the movie was the battle where Boxer split his hoof. The only two battles that happened were the Rebellion and the Battle of Cowshed. One event that happened in the movie that did not happen in the book was when Squealer took Jones' camera equipment and used it to speak to the animals.…

One thing that can have a difference is the characters from both the book and the movie. In the beginning of the book Teddy’s mother took Rikki-tikki inside the house after the monsoon. Where-as in the movie Teddy’s father took Rikki-tikki inside the house. “Here’s a dead mongoose. Let’s have a funeral.” “No”, said his mother; “let’s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn’t really dead.” (Rikki-tikki-tavi) These were two different characters doing different things in the book and the movie. A similarity is in the book and the movie the mother didn’t want Rikki to sleep with Teddy in fear that he might bite him. This is the same thing the same character said in bothe the book and the movie. The characters were all…

To begin, both versions of the kidnapping have different tones. In The Ransom of Red Chief by O. Henry a humorous tone is being used to express kidnapping. “I was only funning” is Henrys way of portraying the humor. This is funny because it is not the way most people talk, it is unusual, and so it is funny. Henry uses hyperboles throughout this story for example, “the town down there, as flat flannel cake.” The flatness of the town was overly exaggerated and helped bring humor to the tone. Another way a kidnapping…
