In the Taika and Nara, Japanese peaked in their selective borrowing from Chinese culture. In 646, the Japanese tried to introduce the Taika Reforms, to change the imperial administration to resemble the Chinese(thought it had little effect in Heian Period).Previously, Japanese scholars tried mastering Chinese characters and wrote dynastic histories like those used by emperors in China. In the Heian period, Japanese consciousness grew and Chinese influence was reduced to a minimum.…
China’s history is arguably the richest and longest of all countries, fortunately for the scholars, this whole stretch of history was charted into different periods called dynasties. If China’s history was like a storybook and the dynasties were the chapters, then the “Mandate of Heaven” is definitely the essential concept to link the chapters together. However, the “Mandate of Heaven” model, like most philosophical concepts, actually provides a utopian representation of China’s historical reality due to its over-simplicity.…

Melvyn C. Goldstein (1995) writes that Western powers have dealt with Tibet under masks of double standards, interacting with Tibet as if it were an independent nation, however, consistently recognizing Chinese authority, rather than Tibetan autonomy. For example, Goldstein writes that in 1943, President Roosevelt, in communication with the 14th Dalai Lama, referred to the Dalai Lama by his religious title, rather than as the “leader” of Tibet, which allowed the President to successfully avoid gaining attention from China, and also allowed the U.S. to avoid recognizing Tibetan autonomy (1). Indeed, due to such types of interactions, Goldstein later reiterates that, “…Tibets’ subordination to China was repeatedly validated by the West throughout…

This project is based on their past traditions and rituals, and I will also cover what has changed since these times.…
The cultural genocide of Tibet started when the Chinese declared that Tibet should be part of China. Years later, the Chinese said that Tibet was part of China because of the warrior Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan and the Mongolians were in control of Tibet, but they never made Tibet belong to china. Tibet had their own government before the Chinese took over. It was led by His Royal Highness, the Dalai Lama. Before the Chinese came in and took over Tibet, Tibet had nothing to do with China. The Chinese invaded Tibet in July of 1949. The goal of the Chinese was to eradicate the Tibetan religion so anyone who did not give up their religion was tortured to death, if you managed to escape Tibet the Chinese would find one of your relatives and torture them until they tell them were you went, if they did not then they would be killed.…
Nanjing is a momentous city that dates back to around 6,000 years ago when farmers originally civilized the land. However, the oldest recorded fact about the city is the wall built around the southwest corner of the presently known Zhonghua Gate. The wall was built in the year of 472 BC by the King of the Yue State, named Gou Jian. Throughout history, this city has been renamed numerous times (around 40 times) and it served as China’s capital for more than 10 dynasties. Nevertheless, it was not until much later that the city flourished and experienced prosperity. The city initially experienced opulence when it was named state capital by the Emperor of Wuchang, Sun Quan, in September of the…
In ancient China there were many dynasties, many religions, and many accomplishments. China is one of the biggest countries in the world and the culture and art of the Chinese have influenced people everywhere including the name we call our plates and silverware. Without China we wouldn't have nearly as much as we do now. The dynastic cycle is an important political theory the Chinese have and is a big part of the political side of the Chinese culture. The mandate of heaven is also a big part of the Chinese culture and plays a huge role in the Chinese dynasties because to have a good dynasty you need to have a good emperor.…
Imperialism in China Due to imperialism, the economy in China was boosting. China's wealth was intriguing to Britain, France, Russia, Japan, and many other nations. If China was colonized, it would be easy for them to create trade routes. China gained power and money from goods. China was given many things because of imperialism. Imperialism is also impacting the culture of China as well. Since China's power was becoming extended, people from all over Europe started to live there, and the culture in China became more diverse. China would not have advanced the way it has now without imperialism. Imperialism in China What good is imperialism? The economy in China was not that great at the start. The British used opium as a way to enter the Chinese…
- Imperialism has existed back to ancient China and western Asia. The practice later on spread widely to the Middle East and Mediterranean countries during the sixth and fourth centuries BCE. Imperialism is defined as the use of diplomatic or military force to extend a nation’s power and enhance its economic interests, often by acquiring territory or colonies and justifying such behavior with assumptions of racial superiority. Imperialism was important because it was the foundation of globalization by extending the authority of a nation over other nations and…

Since I actively participate in church activities, I begin to acknowledge that Christianity is not allowed in China. I heard from my church friend if one was caught by preaching the gospel or participating in underground church activities, one will be detained, interrogated, beaten and tortured. I fear for myself that I would be suffering from the same persecution if I were returned to China. I do not want to lose my freedom of religion. Some of church friends were persecuted by the Chinese government and escaped to the U.S.…
