I see darkness in the area and the sea is erasing the footprints in the sand and the ocean is calling. “ The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls Stamp and neigh , as the hostler calls; The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveler to the shore The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls” In stanza 3 has me listening and seeing the scenery. I hear the horse neighing and the hostler yelling, and i see the traveler never getting to the shore which in that case he is dead. Longfellow used metaphors and personification throughout the poem, for example, one of the metaphors and personification used in one line is “The little waves, with their soft, white hands Efface the footprints in the sands,”.
In Henry’s poem, he repeats the phrase “ The tide rises, The tide falls” in the last line of every stanza. He also used rhyme in every stanza, for example the words “falls” and “calls” etc. Longfellow also uses a specific pattern which is AABBA pattern.
