She shot the tiger. It fell down in distress and the sob was so horrible it made the princess cry a little.
Her father stared at her. Her Lover stared at her, and the whole amphitheater stared at her.
Everyone was utterly silent.
The princess dropped the bow and arrow and ran out of the podium she and her father were sitting on and disappeared.

The princess's lover sat down on the sand in the arena and stared at the dead tiger sitting in front of him. He was stunned and relieved he didn’t get devoured by the tiger. Several minutes passed.
Then, out of nowhere, an elegant, white horse rides into the arena, with the princess riding.
She rode up to her Lover and pulled him onto the back of her horse.

The princess shook her head with much valor. This gave her a sense of relief. She looked back at Stephen on the back of the horse, and he smiled. The answer is] as plain to her as if [the youth] shouted it from where he stood. There was not an instant to be lost. The question [of which door to open] was asked in a flash; it must be answered in another” (Stockton 302). The princess is forced to decide the youth’s fate in a split second.
