“Rikki-tikki-tavi” Argumentative Essay
Theme is a lesson or idea, direct or indirect, that has been found in a story. Rudyard Kipling, author of the short story “Rikki-tikki-tavi,” shows the theme in many ways. The theme is obviously anybody can be a hero. There are a sea-full of examples to show how the theme is anybody can be a hero. Rikki never gave up and in return, saved the garden. I realized that there are many possible themes in this story. One being, if you put your mind to it you’re bound to succeed, but my theme is correct, of course. You can tell that Rikki is a hero easily. When he kills Nag, he rescues the family from a surprise attack in the bathroom. Though he kills Nag, Nag was going to kill the family, along with Rikki. Rikki
risked his life to save the family. After Rikki destroys Nagaina’s eggs, he saves one and bribes her with it making her leave, showing he doesn’t wish to kill her, like any hero should. Rikki became a wildfire that has gone out of control when he realized Nagaina in the kitchen, about to kill the boy. His loyalty to the family keeps him, along with the family, among the living. Rikki is obviously a hero.
Though many people would say Rikki is a monster for killing Nag and Karrit, I say he’s a hero because the snakes were threatening him and his family. If I still haven't made it apparent think about this, armies are killing just so they can keep their country safe. Sound familiar? Of course it does! It’s just like this story. Rikki’s not a miscreation, but a heroic figure!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions some people may think that the theme is really, never give up. I can see that being a possible theme. Rikki never gave up on trying to save the garden, nor the family. Rikki is like a foolish little boy, never knowing when to stop, but Rikki is a hero, he never gave up, no matter how much he gets tossed around and mutilated. Rikki was flung around like a ragdoll, like he was a small pebble in a storm, by Nag while they were clashing in the bathroom. Another possible theme is never give up.
In the end, we all have opinions about what a theme of a story is. There are many themes to many stories. You better believe me when I say, my theme is the only one that’s correct.
