A fantastic summer respite from the hectic and steamy New York is to visit one of the best beaches in the city. It is exceptionally refreshing to feel the cool sea breezes and hear the breaking waves. The public has free access to the perks from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Here are twelve of our favorite beaches for summer fun.
1. Tilden Beach, Queens
Tilden Beach has wild white sand dunes and vegetation that make you feel like you are in another world. This gorgeous oceanfront park is part of the NYC’s Gateway National Recreation Area, which has a nude beach reputation. Apart from the nature, beach-goers can savor the beautiful bike or walking trails while observing the remnants of the military base, Fort Tilden. It was built in 1917 to protect New York Harbor from air and sea attacks. Battery Harris East and West are especially breathtaking that include two massive WWII-era gun emplacements and striking structures that housed nuclear missiles during the Cold War.

This family-friendly beachfront also features summer concert series, a weekly art festival, and a farmers’ market on Saturdays in Kennedy Plaza. Long Beach has been ranked as the cleanest beach in the U.S. and the spiffiest in New York by the National Resources Defense Council.
