All that this Problem of the Week is about is formulas for finding area of a shape on a geometry board depending on the number of boundary pegs (pegs that make the perimeter of the shape) and inside pegs (any pegs inside the shape). The main, and pretty much only goal was to find different formulas to figure out the area of a shape with certain characteristics. The characteristics were depending on the number of outside pegs, the number of inside pegs, and both of them together. I came up with many formulas for many different characteristics of the shape(s).…

Beside suggestions stated by the senior executives and the president of Janmar Coatings, Inc., there are three ways to deploy Janmar products (Paints and sun-dries). First, since 60% ($80 million) of Janmar’s architectural coatings products were sold in DFW area, the company should distribute more of its products to that area in order to maximize sales. Regarding the non-DFW area, the majority (90%) of that area deals with “do-it-yourself” method to paint their houses or rooms, and usually the decision effected by the price of the product. Therefore, Janmar has two options for the non-DFW area, either to cut the prices of their products, or to develop a new lower quality category that has the same brand name but cheaper than the premium category.…

    1. No one knows how good the former Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams will be, but I think he will be the Rookie of the Year next of next season. There are two reasons here. First, the Philadelphia 76ers will give him sufficient time to prove himself. The 76ers even trade their All-star guard Holiday so MCW can be a starter in their line up. That ensures his statistics at least will not be too bad. Second, compares to other rookies, MCW is more mature to play in the new league. In other words, he is ready to play in NBA. His body is physically prepared for those high-intensity games. There is not very much point guard in this league like him, with that height, doing everything. That is why I think he will be the Rookie of the Year.…

    Pile of Bricks

In an exhibit at the Tate Gallery in 1976, there is a make-believe artist, perhaps even well-known places his art work in a museum. This artwork is assembled with 120 bricks, and is arranged in a rectangular form on the floor. It is 2 bricks high, 6 across and 10 lengthwise, and therefore he calls it a “Pile of Bricks.” At the same time, a bricklayer’s assistant does something identical to what the previous well known artist did, but he is absolutely unaware of this incident. Therefore this situation has sparked a debate as to whether or not the bricklayer’s assistant work is considered a work of art due to the striking similarities between the two art pieces, and the fact that it is not located in a well-respected area like a museum. However, according to the Platonic Idealism, the ideal narrows down to three basic concepts: ideal, reality, and representation, and this idealism says that there is more to just a label that determines whether something is considered a work of art or not, and it also refers to the fact that there are certain levels to it, and one cannot simply claim that something is or is not a work of art.…
