Timothy Walter "Tim" Burton was born August 25th, 1958 in Burbank California. He has actively been a creative and iconic film director, producer, artist, writer and animator since 1982. Tim Burton is best known for his dark, gothic, chilling, and unusual horror and fantasy films. His work is derived from many inspirations, such as Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, Edgar Allen Poe, Edward Gorey, Alan Moore, George Melies, Dr. Seuss, and Paul Whitehouse. In addition, Tim Burton watched the films of Ray Harryhousen. He used the influences provided by their stop motion skills and styles to make his own with stop motion films like The Nightmare before Christmas. Burton uses his inspirations to create masterfully crafted films that are widely admired and appreciated.

Vincent was a six-minute black and white stop-motion film that was based on a poem. The short depicted a young boy who fantasized about being his hero, Vincent Price. Burton had the opportunity to have Vincent Price narrate his animation as well. Due to his work on Vincent, the short was shown the Chicago Film Festival and was later able to work on his first live-action production Hansel and Gretel.
After working with just short animations, Tim Burton was later able to work on a full length film. In 1988 Tim Burton worked on Beetlejuice. It was a supernatural comedy that fit perfectly into Burton’s dark, gothic style.
