I would first like to say I am very disappointed and rather pist off at the way I was treated the other night. After going through the drive thru and purchasing a hot chocolate I then went and sat in my car in the parking lot to do some work on the computer using your wifi at your 24hour location. After not even an hour of sitting in my vehicle a female worker from the night shift without ever coming out to my vehicle or saying a word to me decided to call the north tonawanda police to come and check out my vehicle saying i was passed out in it. This is completely untrue and a very large assumption. Before I knew it I had 3 cop cars around my car asking for my licenses because an employee had called them about a vehicle they have seen before and was sitting outside. If you dont want people to stay at your location why offer free wifi and why not come out and directly ask me if im ok. I feel completely harassed and disgusted with the way Tim Hortons decided to handle things and will not be soon to return. I just dont understand why an employee would feel so threatened by someone working in the car with my computer opened and on my lap specially if she had seen me there before using the wifi. I am student and thought Tim Hortons was a nice location were I can get some work done. Also I dont understand why someone wouldnt just come up and talk to me after all she went on numerous cigarette brakes and my vehicle was parked in a well light area with computer clearly visible. I think what upset me even more is when I called the store that night to ask for the corporate number she said she did not have it, could not find it and no one working knew it. I find this unacceptable and not good business at all from a place i thought valued their customers and welcomed…

    The Olympus Scandal

This paper describes the case of Olympus, a Japanese manufacturer of optic equipment, at which in early 2012 a scandal was uncovered which was soon dubbed to be one of the largest loss-concealment schemes of Japan. In the 1990’s, Olympus incurred significant losses on financial investments made. These were subsequently hidden with the aid of investment companies by shifting the investments around. In the 2000’s, these losses were to be repaid by paying exorbitant merger and acquisition fees to these investment companies. After newly-appointed CEO Michael Woodford blew the whistle on these frauds, the company got into trouble. Our research into the events leading to this scandal, as well as an observation of the internal control environment led to some interesting insights regarding possible improvements Olympus might implement. However, we also note that a collusion of board members cannot be prevented by any level of internal control, and a renewal of the entire board might be appropriate in order to establish proper internal control within the Olympus Corporation.…

    Dunkin' Donuts

William Rosenberg opened his first coffee-and-doughnut shop in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1950. In 1995 he began licensing the right to imitate his retail operation to independent owner/operators, called franchisees. Business format franchising, as this type of cloning relationship came to be known, was in its infancy in the early 1950s. By the late 1980s, however, business format franchising had become a major force in retailing in the United States. Meanwhile, Dunkin’ Donuts had experienced similar growth. As of the end of 1987 there were 1,478 Dunkin’ Donuts units in operation in its North American region, of which 1,449 were franchised. Dunkin’ Donuts licensed an additional 191units throughout the rest of the world. By early 1988, however, deteriorating sales to capital ratios, stiffening competition, and uneven expansion threatened not only the level of company profitability but also its relationship with the franchisees. A number of options that related primarily to increased distribution were being explored. Any new changes in strategy would require careful examination of its effect on both the franchisees and the company. Competition from convenience stores and supermarket bakeries was becoming increasingly acute. In 1988 there were over 20,000 supermarket bakeries, and the second-largest selling item in those bakeries was doughnuts. Moreover, convenience stores were expanding into food service at an alarming rate and had become a serious threat. By 1987 nearly 80% of all new shops were franchisee-developed. This was much easier to accomplish in Region I(the eastern United States and Canada) where 75% of all domestic Dunkin’ Dounts shops were located, where the average store sales were significantly higher than in Region II(the western United States), and where existing franchisees were much more active in purchasing real estate and developing stores in order to expand their existing operations. In a nationwide sample of customers who lived…

    Starbucks And McDonalds

    • 1967 Words

While comparing the websites of Starbucks and McDonald’s I came to the conclusion that Starbucks is much more customer oriented when it comes to their coffee selection. On the Starbucks website a customer can go online and search the many different types of coffee Starbucks has to offer. You can filter out which kinds of coffee you do not like and the website will show you exactly what you are looking for and show you the exact price. While on the McDonald’s website there is just a list of different products you can choose from and that is it. There is no way to specialize the coffee you order. Differences domestically and internationally between the two businesses differ greatly.…
